Thanks for that information! It’s good to hear some confirmation about what we’ve been hearing.

*******

NEW DELHI: The city government has traced nearly 75% of Delhi residents who had returned from China after January 15, tracking down 2,885 persons so far, in a bid to prevent a secondary outbreak of the coronavirus here....

Delhi’s special secretary (health) Satyendra Singh Dursawat told TOI that 3,935 Delhiites had travelled back from China after January 15. “Our team has found 2,885 people so far. Ten, who showed symptoms, are quarantined at Safdarjung and RML hospitals while the rest have been isolated at home,” he said.

I am sooo not liking the news of 14 days to symptoms. And then figure 5 or 7 days to sick enough to be hospitalized? In the meantime, that virus is doing a number on the lungs. Then you’ve got little to no residual immunity and subject to a second round with damaged lungs? But wait, now they are floating 24 days? This virus is very not cool.

"...which will take two weeks to be fully operational and will require an additional confirmation from the CDC.."

..."Huh? The lab won’t be ready for another 2 weeks or the tests won’t be ready for 2 weeks? Either way, hardly effective for those today."

That dad and his daughter sent back from Rady's to quarantine at Miramar received their results much quicker. Within days if you make inference...now they are telling us their isn't any uniformity in the test result times? Hmmmm

The worst thing is that during those 14 days, the infected person is unknowingly spreading the virus to everyone that they come into contact with!

See “superspreader” in England.

Sounds good to me. Looks like a good place to check out the HOT and Humid theory for this virus there, too. Heat indexes in the mid 90’s.

I have thought for the past week that India could end up exploding - due to the relatively lax attitude they appear to be displaying about the virus, the poor resources, and the fact that they have a billion people crammed into really congested cities over there. It may take several months to develop, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t develop a serious outbreak.

"Could that be because (a) pollution is rampant in that country - thus injuring victims lungs and affecting their ability to recover and/or (b) overall healthcare is not as good in China?"

That could have something to do with it, if many of them are asthmatic. But lower seasonal humidity, lower temperature and higher virus loads between surfaces and people might have something to do with it, too. If it were a flu with the usual amount of airborne transmission, it would already have been all over us.

what meds you may get, may not even meet existing FDA standards!

I can't speak to FDA production facilities. I can speak to all sorts of other facilities with on-site QA compliance officers from outside firms. Unless the officer is armed with serious authority, they are essentially shunned and ignored. Any production issues may get caught later after the product has spend a month on the water but on the spot? Not going to happen.

They(The host company) give these people a closet and the QA person disappears into it. Many times, there may be a handful of outside inspectors in the same factory from competing firms. They hang out, smoke cigarettes and nap during the day. Pretty much useless.

Thank you for this post, Jane. I’ve wondered when tv world would start catching up, other than parroting WHO and CDC.

Thank God for FR and twitter. I don’t have a twitter account but use it all the time!

I’m sure compromised lungs play a role, but remember the first official case in the US was Jan 20. That’s only 21 days ago. It is still in the early stages in the US

Tucker also said most masks and latex gloves are mfd.in China. Scary stuff.......they would make sure their citizens have enough first.

I’m not sure if this has all been posted, but the scariest developments I’ve seen on Twitter today, all with a variety of studies attached, so this stuff is all pretty legit:

1- they think it’s not just passed via droplets, but is actually becoming aerosolized - meaning it might be possible that is hangs around in the air even AFTER the infected person is gone. Think elevators: scary.

2- The incubation period has been shown to be possibly up to 24 days, (still average of 3 though) - and in one charted case, the only apparent exposure a woman had was having traveled from Wuhan 42 days prior. Ouch that’s a long incubation period...

3- In HK a woman w/ no other means of exposure may have gotten it somehow from the PIPES in the building - might have been sewage/air pipe mixing or some nasty such thing - they have evacuated part of this building to check it out.

This stuff above could mean a real disaster for the US if this virus affects people outside of China as badly as it does inside. If it doesn’t somehow develop here, then some of this data must be bad. If this stuff is correct, we are in for a very rough time, and we need to begin preparing BEFORE it begins spreading.

I’ve thought about that.

That the likelyhood of there being ANY QC going on, in these factories, is...well, nil.

Why would we....the most advanced country on earth....turn over our HEALTH/MEDICINES to anyone else....especially a commie country and potential enemy???

Why??

Bad news:

Case from Miramar.

“First coronavirus case confirmed in San Diego”

“SAN DIEGO — The first case of coronavirus was confirmed in San Diego County Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed.

The coronavirus patient was among those who landed at MCAS Miramar last week after traveling from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the virus outbreak.

The patient was among the few taken to UC San Diego Health for evaluation after displaying symptoms that health officials said could indicate coronavirus. The patient’s positive test results were confirmed Monday evening by Thomas Skinner, public information officer with the CDC...”

You bet.

And..as Tucker mentioned.....China could (would) also hold back supplies of much needed drugs to fight this, or other diseases, before shipping them to us.
