Hong Kong (CNN)Millions of people across China are heading back to work after the Lunar New Year break turned into an extended quarantine due to the Wuhan coronavirus.
Many will be working from their homes, however, with strict quarantine guidelines in place in many cities and most businesses urging people to work remotely if possible to reduce the chances of transmission.
Some semblance of normality may have returned, but the outbreak shows no signs of slowing, with the number of confirmed cases now at over 40,000 worldwide and the death toll at 910. That means the coronavirus has officially killed more people than the SARS pandemic of 2003, previously one of the worst medical crises in recent Chinese history.
A total of 3,281 patients infected with the coronavirus have since been discharged from hospital as of Sunday, Chinese health authorities said. The vast majority of the deaths have been in mainland China, leaving the country in something of a bizarre situation where some areas of it will be returning to something approaching business as usual, even as other regions face increasingly draconian restrictions on their movement and behavior in a desperate attempt to contain the virus.
A team of doctors and researchers from the World Health Organization left for China on Sunday to assist with the outbreak, led by Bruce Aylward, who the organization's Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described as a "veteran of past public health emergencies." Aylward led the WHO's response to Ebola, as well as initiatives for immunization, communicable diseases control and polio eradication. Even as the epicenter of the outbreak remains in Hubei, the province of which Wuhan is the capital and accounts for almost 30,000 of the total confirmed cases, the epidemic has spread worldwide, affecting more than two dozen countries.

50 million quarantined and 900bdeaths?
Scary..../s
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Looks like US used remdesivir to treat the virus effectively.
China is now trialing it, along with others. Gilead originally created it to treat Ebola, but it did not prove very effective for that, but caused no harm.
Trumps compassion/ experimental drug policy allowed for the guy in Washington state to get the drug prior to full approval. He is now home, in isolation, showing no symptoms. He was getting worse, and the drug was given for 24 hours and he was much better.
Coincidence?
Jerome, a caller into Alex Jones’ show yesterday said he lives in Chinatown, NYC amidst about 3/4 of a million. Not 1 reported case.
Huh?
CNN reporting on the information China is releasing. What could go wrong?
Jerome is a Democrat.....................
900 per day would be believable.
Hadn’t considered that, Badger. Thanks. Suppressing evidence and using the platform? I just hadn’t seen any evidence, yet.
Real figures:
250 million under quarantine. Probably 60,000 to 100,000 dead. So far.
Pretty well under control outside of China.
Why do you keep posting the same thing over and over when a coronavirus article comes up.
It’s called a ping list. Perhaps you have heard of them?
The funeral homes are cremating the dead by the thousands.
“Trumps compassion/ experimental drug policy allowed for the guy in Washington state to get the drug prior to full approval.”
actually, trump’s “right to try” law had nothing to do with it, as the drug was approved for use by the FDA under the pre-existing “expanded access”/”compassionate use” rules (”right-to-try” doesn’t require FDA approval):
“Gilead had stockpiled the drug, as well as the materials used to make it, for use against Ebola. The company is now using that stockpile for the trials in China and for individual patients like the one in Washington State, whose doctors sought special permission from the Food and Drug Administration for compassionate use so that they could give him an unapproved drug.”

Great.
They’ll use up the stockpile fixing china and if we get it there won’t be any left for us.
nice.
I’ll bet they’re cremating somebody but not all those somebodies or even the majority are not Corona virus
OK, what does his mean?
It means ‘hey all y’all on the ping list lookie here!’
Ifin’ you ain’t on the ping list y’all can ignore this...
Oh ...
I thought compassionate use was the same as right to try .
Honest mistake - I had no idea there were layers within the approval to use drugs in ways that were innovative.
Thanks for the correction.
Ps- I hope this works for everyone as well as it did for the guy in Washington state.
