Pundits are beginning to agree that Joe Biden's campaign is in a death spiral.
"Biden’s campaign is running on fumes," writes The Daily Beast's Sam Stein. "A candidate with all the trappings of a traditional frontrunner—the long résumé, party backing, relevant experience, and steady poll numbers—suddenly is on electoral life support."
So what happened? Should Biden's campaign crash and burn there will be much speculation over what went wrong. How did the frontrunner go from smooth sailing to the nomination to an epic disaster?
Well, I think the answer is already clear.
When you look at the Real Clear Politics tracking in the early states of Iowa and New Hampshire, you will notice a pattern: Biden starts losing support, or some other candidate starts to rise, around mid-September 2019.
Mid-September happens to be the same time the whistleblower complaint that launched Trump's impeachment became public.
Looking at the graphs of Iowa and New Hampshire you see quite clearly how Biden's candidacy was riding high, the unequivocal frontrunner, for months. Months! Then suddenly the race became competitive between Biden, Sanders, Warren, and eventually Buttigieg.
Biden has never regained that runaway frontrunner status since the Democrats started their bogus impeachment of Trump. And it's quite easy to understand why.
Prior to the whistleblower complaint, Biden's Ukraine conflict of interest was not on the public radar, but thanks to those revelations, videos of Biden admitting to a quid pro quo, and his son Hunter's position at Burisma Holdings were being discussed and debated openly by media. For sure, the liberal media attempted to downplay the significance of Biden's Ukraine problem, but Biden, who was seen as the sane and safe candidate, wasn't so safe anymore. Even Biden's cheerleaders on The View couldn't deny it.

I’ve been saying it since Nancy decided to go forward with impeachment it was all about taking out Biden not Trump.
Dems are using this cycle to knee cap the radical left wing of their party.
Ensure radical gets the nomination and gets crushed in the general.
Nancy’s little staged temper tantrum is part and parcel of this too.
Ensure a radically left nominee. Ensure they get crushed.. so the party can moderate for the 2024 cycle when they actually may have a chance at winning.
Classic rope a dope.. give the radicals exactly what they want and knee cap them with it.
Really, ethics demands that even if there is only an appearance of impropriety, you need to resign. Someone who doesn’t just proved they aren’t ethical.
The stupidest people in the room are Democrats.
Nancy Pelousy (my spelling) agreed to make the Ukraine Digging for Dirt the centerpiece of the impeachment charge. When she did it was predicted by me and I’m sure many others that it would lead to the death of the Biden candidacy if not worse.
I struggled then and even now to explain why she would have made such an obviously bad move. But there are two possible explations:
1. She wanted Biden out of the race.
2. She is so stupid that she thought it would cinch it for Good Old Joe.
Could be either.
His demise began when he decided to run for the Senate and become a useless one-of-a-hundred guys who don’t do anything with their lives.
Of course, their entire field is nothing but a collection of stupid, do-nothing, useless, mealy-mouthed, pandering, career politician communists. You cannot find a less likable, less accomplished group of people in the entire United States.
Don't overcomplicate things.
The "trappings of a traditional front-runner" are now, and have been for a while, the kiss of death for any candidate.
Joe needs to go into a Coma. That would help some.
I wondered at the time (even posted on FR) whether Biden was the target of that impeachment. Democrats are evil, but their leaders are not stupid enough to have missed the inevitable collateral damage from that farce.
But it’s been DEBUNKED! Investigated! There was NOTHING WRONG!
My take is the radical Dems never wanted Biden but couldn’t tell him and the establishment, so they continued to push impeachment knowing it would eventually harm Biden vis-a-vis Ukraine and Hunter.

But doesn't that seem like a losing strategy? In 2024, won't people remember their far-left communist lurch in 2020 and not trust them?

Biden was the sacrificial lamb. They knew it would happen but they didn’t care. If I was Joe- I’d start spilling some secrets about his party. Make him a Republican so called whistle blower.
Only the highest level of ethics demands you resign if there is a hint of impropriety. Almost by definition, being a politician means you have no ethics.
I totally agree with you that, if you don’t resign, you have proved yourself unethical. The problem is that so many people are willing to bear false witness (look at the Kavanaugh hearings, the impeachment) that it can be hard to separate the true charges from the false.

No it doesn’t... Every election is a binary choice... The Democrat party MUST moderate, period.. if it doesn’t it will NEVER win the white house again. It may or may not win in 2024 if it moderates, but it certainly will not win if it does not.
Honestly, sit back and think about it.. if your goal were to make sure your party LOST the coming election in the biggest way possible, can you name one thing, one single thing you would be doing differently that what the Democrats have been doing?? Please, tell me ONE THING you would do differently if your goal was to lose this fall by the largest margin possible as a Democrat?
Impeachment is no win for you, you won’t remove the president, you will motivate his base to 11, and anger the middle. Then you throw your little staged temper tantrum with the speech? Etc.
The Democrats are INTENTIONALLY throwing 2020, they know they can’t win... so they want to get something out of it... if they do nothing and a perceived “moderate” is the nominee, the far left will say “SEE WE NEED TO MOVE MORE LEFT”.. .and will gain even more influence and power... btu if they run a hard leftist and get crushed, that argument falls flat, and loses influence, and the party moderates for the 2024 cycle when they may have a chance to win.
They can Do Nothing, and Lose this fall, and see the wing of their party that they know doesn’t sell outside the deepest of blue districts keep gaining influence, and never win a national election again.. or they can counter it, under cut it and knee cap it so they can be in a better position for hte next cycle.
To do nothing is to put yourself in a worse place going forward, so better to use this losing cycle to take out the cancer that you know is costing you votes in places you must get them if you ever want to win again.
The impeachment and everything the Dems have been doing has been to Rope a Dope the far left wing of the part, and knee cap them...
They are using a guaranteed losing cycle, to get a long term gain....

With the proviso/disclaimer that I don't think Biden's campaign is finished, I'd point out that the Hunter Biden/Joe Biden grifting operation started to get more publicity; Biden started in (fake) polls at or near his peak numbers right out of the gate; and Sanders was still alive (whoops! spoiler alert -- I don't think Sanders will survive until the convention, and it may not even be due to Arkancide).

Impeaching trump probably prevented or at least delayed Biden going to prison.
