President Trump is making good on his promises to drain the swamp and cut Obama-era holdovers from his staffs, especially the critical and recently controversial National Security Council.
Officials confirmed that Trump and national security adviser Robert OBrien have cut 70 positions inherited from former President Barack Obama, who had fattened the staff to 200.
Since entering the White House, Trump has relied on staffs smaller than previous administrations and has noted how prior presidents had a much smaller NSC team.

Over the past 3 years.
But, for some here, thats no fun! Cant bash Trump if the facts get in the way.

And what do you do with it once it is removed?
On the first day ofhis administration, Obama fired all the lawyers and hired back only loyal Democrats and made sure all the new ones were loyal Democrats. Why Republicans always think they can keep the holdovers of a previous administration amaze me when the Dems clearly don’t.
I will cut Trump some slack because he wasn’t as politically connected as most incoming presidents and probably couldn’t see the sheep from the wolves but he has paid a tremendous price for keeping all those wolves in office and should have probably cut most of them loose before 2018.
I am a huge Trump supporter, and likely wouldn’t qualify as a pimple on the President’s ass.
However, as a peon and non-pimple, I could have counseled Trump (and predicted the events of the last three years accurately) that on day one, he should have ejected every single Democrat holdover working in every capacity in the White House.
As others have said, a portion of this is understandable due to his status as somewhat of a political neophyte, but it is puzzling that it has taken him this long to learn this lesson.
OTOH, perhaps he thought it was best to wait until the Mueller Report and Impeachment had run their course before he made any moves, and there is likely some wisdom in that.
A good way to set traps though for the top swamp rats.
Loaners sent back.... to do more damage? Is it impossible to fire these government wonks ? Even if it one less today, its better than yesterday.
Each holdover fired should be placed on a watch list and their activity monitored for at least the next decade.
What do call it when a bus load of lawyers goes over a cliff? An accident. When do you call it when you find out one of the sets was empty? A tragedy.
It’s a Start.
YEP!
Is it impossible to fire these government wonks ?

I agree. They should all have been pink slipped Jan 20, 2017 @ 1:00 P.M. EST.
agreed, but will it happen? I just don’t know. I don’t have a lot of faith in the DOJ. Barr is going to have to make some serious arrests here soon to get my attention.
Complicated business
Tillerson started those.
Notice that President Trump used to use words like stupid and overrated when describing his political adversaries. Now he uses much more accurate words like evil and horrible.
He has learned well.
Now thats what I call muckin out the barn!
Yeah, I know. Look at the dependent clause right after where you copied/pasted.
Do you think Zer0 KNEW every US Atty he hired to replace those he fired? Of course not. But he had a LOYAL rat party organization that was already set up with the knowledge and resources to place reliable, left-wing ideologues in those positions. President Trump on the other hand had to depend on advice from REPUBLICANS. The GOP was either not ready, incapable or, at best, unwilling to see his administration succeed. After all, he was NOT “one of them.”
