"I believe we ought to do all we can and seek to lift ourselves by our own bootstrap," King said in the clip. However, he added, "It's a cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself up by his own bootstraps."

It sounds like Mr. Chakrabarti is a classic example of pulling oneself up by their bootstraps.
He went from a child of an immigrant, to getting into Harvard. To working in Silicon Valley which I would perceive meant his income was over $500K/year minimum.
I doubt that his opportunities would have been anywhere near this potential if his parents had remained in Bangladesh.

I don’t know how old you are but they’ve rebooted the Thundercats. The promos alone show it to be badly drawn with infantile stories ... and promos typically have tried to put the best foot forward on new shows.
Frankly, when they were making cartoons just to sell crap the cartoons at least looked as good or better than the crap they were selling.

Pulling yourself up by the bootstraps refers to the Prusik Ascent taught in military training where a soldier literally pulls themselves up a rope using only their boot laces. What at first seemed impossible became possible through the correct training and determination. Which is a great metalhor for the American dream. You arent guaranteed success, but if you prepare train and give it your all you just might make it big... and there is t some big government standing on your neck while you try...
