And you don’t know what you don’t know.

Thanks. I googled health district after and don’t like the implications

Created in the fifties ( some earlier). They have all sorts of authority that projecting ahead could be very scary

I do know the moon isn’t made of green cheese. And your assertion is in the same realm of possibility.

Illegal immigrants and the homeless will have top priority to access this drug first.

Could be. Follow the money.

Cure developed by a capitalist, not a socialist. That’s the difference in healthcare.

Bears repeating.

I agree though, the term “local health district” isn’t a common term in the states. Maybe the doctor is from Guatemala or somewhere. Or perhaps the term is something the CDC uses (although a quick web search didn’t bring anything up).

Hopefully the guy is still under quarantine, based on reports that even though one is cured of symptoms, they might still have the virus in them.

In the counties near me they are all called health departments. Up in Snohomish County where this guy lives, it is called a district.

I am on the other side of the state from Everett but “health district” is commonly heard or read on the local radio news and newspaper. Synonymous with the county, really, but specialized for public health support. Ive never had any problem with them and a girl I grew up with is a public health nurse there.

I agree. “County Health Department” is also common.

Nah. I went searching for more info

He’s the Arab/infectious disease doc for the “health district” that covers Everett. He’s been trained to think like that. It’s govt overseeing lots of crap they shouldn’t. Also a way for the AMA to control the number if hospitals built in an area

Supposedly started to help rural communities. As usual not the way it worked out

Other stories from the hospital describe the patient as being tended to by a robotic station in an isolation unit most of the time

“A few days a week back the Chinese were trying to patent the vaccine, even though Gilead Sciences had already patented it”

it’s not clear Gilead patented it in China, which if they didn’t, the Chinese can patent it themselves in their own country ...there’s no such thing as reciprocal patents, so patents have to made in every country, or in groups of countries that agree to cooperate, like the EU ...

Yes - the robot. And a two-bed isolation room away from the rest of the hospital. A nice set up - as long as there isn't a third person. One can see how easily China was overtaken by this virus.

The guy also had the four same people working on him (rotations) to limit the possibility of exposure to other care providers. I suppose picking the four that were the best trained in infectious disease protocol might also have been factored in.

Glad the guy made it.

There was an interesting article on the doctor that first treated him. When the CDC told the doctor they would be up there in a couple of days to take control, the doctor thought that might be too late. So he interviewed the patient on his travels and contacts and got in touch with the ~40 people he came in contact with since being home from China to test and monitor them.

Infectious Disease - Wuhan (coronavirus)
Experimental anti-viral medication success

..At that point we elected to give him… the experimental Remdesivir, antiviral medication.
And within 24 hours he improved significantly.
This was quite encouraging and he improved and thereafter remained without fever
and felt much better.
Over the next few days he improved to where we thought he could be discharged at home under the care of the local health district. "

HT to Dark Wing and spacejunkie2001 !
Possible medical break through - thank goodness
