The District has a long Rpublican history. Steve Pearce held the seat for a long time, until he ran for the Senate and lost. the current occupant won by vote harvesting after the count, and a lackluster campaign by Yvette Herrell, the Pub candidate.
So yes, whoever the Republican candidate is has a very good chance, if they fight for it, and don’t put up with cheating.
we need to flip 18 seats, so every one is critical.
Sounds like something only a strong antibiotic could cure.
It leans Republican but the Pub running in 2018 lost by the Dem doing last minute voter harvesting. However, the Pub, Yvette Herrell, didn't have full Pub support with some leaders in Alamogordo announcing they wouldn't support her. She is one of the three running this year and touts support of NM sheriffs and minority Pub legislators. The third candidate is also a conservative Pub. You can see the candidates at the Ballotpedia link above.
The district itself encompasses all of southern New Mexico which is generally conservative except for the segment adjoining south ABQ and the Las Cruces area north of El Paso. Since 2000 the Pub presidential candidate has won the district including Trump with 50.1-39.9% of the vote
Very good post. You’re right.
Hopefully the people in the 2nd Congressional District have caught on to what that radical woman is up to and support Claire. I’d bet most have.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED TO GET BACK THE HOUSE.
GO, GO MRS. CHASE!!!
Thanks for that analysis.
Great info, thx. This could be an important flip.
LOL! Roger that.
From what I’ve heard,so far, not much negative about her. Likely I’ll be voting for her.
don’t know her or her husband, although I think I knew his parents and grandparents in my youth. There is a Chase family that goes way back in Southern NM history.
They didn’t have any girls at all at NMMI when I went there, and darn sure none that gorgeous.
Chase is her married name. I don’t have info on what her family name except she lived in Roswell.
This is an interesting blog post on the race between her and Herrell:
My Dad graduated from NMMI in 1939. He was the Commandant of Cadets.
Yes, I knew that, Just didn’t phrase my sentence as clearly as I intended.
Thanks for the article... Oddly enough, I didn’t know Harrell was from Ruidoso... I thought she was from Roswell too, or Hobbs
I was there mid 60s to early 70s.
Good for you. I bet you got a lot out of it. Are you still in the Roswell area?
