In 1948, Jordan captured the "West Bank."
In 1950, Jordan annexed the West Bank and gave Jordanian citizenship to the West Bank Arabs.
In 1967, Israel captured the West Bank.
In 1988, Jordan revoked citizenship for the West Bank Arabs, making them stateless.

Israel should deport the West Bank Jordanians to their Jordanian homeland.

I have no regard for the Palestinian cause and little for the people who live in the Palestinian territories, but surely a de facto governing entity and the people they control (or represent, if one is genteel about it) are entitled to pick a name for themselves, even a name that dates from as recent as Roman times.

If not, then it is hard to justify a people being called "Americans." After all, the name "America" does not date from Biblical times and its origin is obscure and at best trivial. It seems absurd that the name of the world's greatest country and people are derived from the name of an Italian explorer or of a Welsh customs official who backed Cabot's expedition. Yet that is how it was.

As for the Palestinians, it does not matter what they are called, they are of recent entry into the area and do not have claims to territory or peoplehood that can be permitted to diminish or contradict the exclusive claim of the Jewish people to Israel as a nation and homeland for Jews.

At most, the Palestinians have practical and de facto claims to territory and limited quasi statehood, preferably without an express Muslim identity. Grant those and let the Palestinians fester and stagnate, with Israel keeping them in check for security purposes. After a few generations, the Palestinians may even wise up. They will still refer to themselves as Palestinians though.

In fact at one time the Jews in the region called themselves “Palestinians”. The Arabs in the region considered themselves serfs of the Syrians, so were essentially Syrians, and in turn Syria was a puppet state of the Ottomans.

Call them whatever you want. There are still a couple of million of them living in the West Bank and Gaza who are not interested in making peace with Israel unless it includes an independent Palestinian state. And maybe not even then.

There are good records, and your initial post is historically right on.

The Romans did rename the area “Palestine”, specifically to mock Israel, by renaming the land after a former enemy Israel had conquered, which was also an effort to try and show Roman “gods”, or the Romans themselves,were greater than Israel’s God!

It was a process which began in AD70 and was for sure official in AD132.

At the end of the day, the slightly accented name Palestine was directly and purposely assigned by Rome, to the land of the Jewish people. Additionally, since that time, (the destruction of the second temple in AD70) the land remained historically identified with Israel and the Jewish people, regardless of the presence of Arabs.
As well, just a cursory look reveals the strategic political nature of the Arabs from Jordan who essentially decided to invent a false history, which included literally taking the geographically Jewish/Israeli associated name, for their own, and arguing all the land is theirs (including the name), and that they have been there for thousands if years.

For crying out loud sideways... The Jordanian Arabs only did this starting in in 1967 to 1970, as part the strategy to divide and eliminate the Jews and Israel!

Scripture clearly teaches this land actually belongs to God, and that Jerusalem would be a stumbling block to the nations, as the nation’s will continually seek to control and divide Israel and Jerusalem!
