PLYMOUTH, N.H. - In a perfect world, Susan Stepp, a 73-year-old retiree, would be voting vote for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in New Hampshires Democratic presidential primary Tuesday, she says. But that wont be happening.
I am not sure a woman is the best candidate to go up against Trump, Stepp said recently as she stood in the back of a conference room listening to tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang as part of her hunt for the best candidate to challenge the Republican incumbent.
Stepps concern has coursed through the Democratic primary for months, registering in polling, interviews and, now, the first votes cast.
Analysts say its no surprise that women express more anxiety about a woman defeating Trump, given that through personal experience, theyre familiar with the barriers of sexism.
Women are more likely to have experienced or observed gender discrimination or sexism, said Jill Lawless, a political scientist at the University of Virginia.
Notably, experts said, theres no data showing that women underperform or outperform men in general elections. But Lawless noted that having to fight that perception that a woman cannot win may actually work against the female candidates in this race.
Anytime theyre trying to convince voters that a woman can beat Donald Trump, theyre not talking about health care or foreign affairs, she said.

That picture proves that getting older doesn’t automatically mean getting wiser.
From the article:
I am not sure a woman is the best candidate to go up against Trump,
Isnt that comment, by democrat standards, an extremely biased and misogynistic statement?
Thanks for the picture - doesn’t surprise me that she’s a Grateful Dead fan.
Sticker should sat “LOSER”.
I am not sure a woman is the best candidate to go up against Trump,
I imagine that, in her worldview, drenched with identity politics, a Democrat woman would get virtually all the women vote and maybe 1-2% of the men. That’s a winner! She should reconsider.
She should consider Oprah or Michelle. Either would win all the women vote and at least 12% of the men’s. Because issues don’t matter, identity uber alles, right?
“Analysts say its no surprise that women express more anxiety about a woman defeating Trump, given that through personal experience, theyre familiar with the barriers of sexism.”
oh, hogwash ... women know better than men the strengths and weaknesses of other women, so they know it will take a REALLY tough woman to beat Trump, and they know that neither Warren nor Klobacher have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with President Trump ... (btw, it would take a REALLY tough man to beat Trump as well, not some metrosexual like Beto or Buttigig or a decrepit old fart like Bidn.)
But a gay one is no problem whatsoever.
and a black candidate need not apply either.
But a white gay or guy? A-OK as long as they are white.
Coming up next, another democrat lecture on diversity,
“In a perfect world, Susan Stepp, a 73-year-old retiree, would be voting vote for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in New Hampshires Democratic presidential primary...”
Wow, to start off with a totally illogical and undefendable sentence is sooooo modern MSM.
Exactly why would Ms Stepp vote for a woman just because?
Each and every day the MSM proves that they, rather than we, are the inferior class.
Perhaps they should consider the qualities of the candidate instead of the sex.
Until your name is on a tombstone the Democrats will never trust you will vote for the Democrat party.
That picture is a good argument for repealing the 19th.
I have special disdain for Warren because she is a academic grifter, a complete fraud. She is an example of how far our colleges have fallen into the dumpster.
Jill Lawless, a political scientist at the University of Virginia.
The perfect descriptive name for a democrat operative.
Any woman who cant go up against Trump is no US president to go up against Iran China Russia and North Korea
Its not sexism, its leadership
Give us a Maggie Thatcher or a Golda Meir
I read the statement “I am not sure a woman is the best candidate to go up against Trump,” with great satisfaction. To me, far from representing a failed voter, it suggests a growing maturity in a ‘minority’ group.
That is, when you no longer automatically assume that someone who shares an irrelevant trait like race or sex with you is the best candidate, you are are beginning to allow democracy to work as it is intended.
As you implied, that is considered a bug, not a feature by Democrats.
Women will never achieve parity with men until we start producing sane, mature women for higher office. It’s not that difficult.
This is just a UVA and Charlottesville dog and dog whistle.
Notably, experts said, theres no data showing that women underperform or outperform men in general elections. But Lawless noted that having to fight that perception that a woman cannot win may actually work against the female candidates in this race.
Tomahawk Liz has lost another one of the incoherent demographic.
