America has exhausted all of its military options in Afghanistan and is left with little choice but to forge ahead in peace talks with the Taliban, Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S. Asad M. Khan said Monday, underscoring the high stakes of grueling negotiations.
In an exclusive interview with The Washington Times, Mr. Khan said the two sides have reached a crucial moment despite continued Taliban attacks and a spike in American strikes against the radical Islamist movements top targets to solidify a cease-fire agreement that could wind down two decades of conflict and bring to a close the longest war in U.S. history.
President Trump has pressed for a deal with the Taliban and the U.S.-backed government in Kabul that would allow him to draw down the estimated 12,000-plus American combat troops based in the country, but both sides have balked when a deal appeared in sight over the past year.
What is the alternative? Mr. Khan said. There is no military solution. You have tried it with a much larger military presence there, and that did not result in peace.
In a wide-ranging conversation with The Times, Pakistans top diplomat in Washington slammed Indias actions in recent months in Kashmir, warned of a potential refugee crisis if the Kashmir dispute isnt resolved peacefully and urged the U.S. and Iran to cool tensions or risk further destabilization of a fragile region.
Mr. Khan also said Pakistan is thankful for White House efforts to tamp down conflicts between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.
Mr. Trump is set to visit India, but not Pakistan, at the end of the month, and speculation is mounting over what the U.S. president will say to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the long stalemate over Kashmir.

Taliban means students. Students of the Koran from the Madrassas they attended.
After the Taliban drive us Infidels out, they will go to war with the Muslim heretics who supported us Infidels, and die trying to take over the country entirely for Allah. -Tom
What a f-ing typical waste. This country never learns. Go to your regional VA and look at those soldiers and think “peace talks”. America had the upper hand after 9/11 then we went “religion of peace” BS and eventually went to go fight another “war” essentially inexplicably opening another front sucking vast resources and losing political credit.
My company is run by Afganis and they say theres this new young buck thats taking over
hes from the northern alliance they said the Talban is totally evil and this guy is taking on the corrupt government and everything
theres videos of them out there but hes giving womens rights and everything else
Its pretty swift and harsh justice but everybodys armed and theyre daring the Taliban are any of these other idiots to come in here and try to cause trouble
What military solution does anyone have in mind? Other than extermination?
Salt the poppy fields. All of them.
Let them starve to death.

Ever since limited war has been included in US strategy, we have never won a war.
Probably the same guy who espoused common core and See-Say came up with that idea.
I have a military solution. Roll ‘em up and bring it home.
Works for me.
Let the Mooslims wipe each other out.
I wasn’t around at the time, but from what little I’ve read sounds a lot like the Vietnam conundrum. The VC knew we wanted to leave. It was Nixon’s stated policy more or less. But it left Nixon no choice but to increase attacks as they negotiated in Paris.
There is a military solution. We just don’t have the guts to carry it out.
“Salt the poppy fields.”
............
Good point, good tactic.
............
Don’t worry about them starving, plenty of NGOs for that.
There is a military solution. We just dont have the guts to carry it out.
Yep. And thats why we are losing.

Our military solution was doomed to fail when the Rules of Engagement tied our hands behind our backs.
