The perfesser could have had all the Marxism he wanted back then; he didn’t need to emigrate to the US, could have tried the wonderlands of Soviet Russia, China, and the satellite countries. I remember being in Russia on business and some damned airhead prof told me he had not idea communism produced this, he had been a self-described “fellow traveler” supporting Marxism until he saw first hand what a human and economic disaster it was.
The fact the Marxist father was supported and sustained by Notre Dame, a supposedly Catholic University, speaks volumes about the effectiveness of Gramsci’s approach.
