For all of millennia no story has been retold in which the protagonist is the villain. It does not work mathematically, logically.
Until this time in history since the sixties when people decided to become divine, ruling over procreation.
Harry Potter, Wicked.
Hollywood can produce it, give out awards. But no one will talk about any of these so-called stories.
They cannot control that. they try to, in so doing, they mess with developing minds. It contributes to despair and rising suicide rates
Theres a reason that on the cheesy movie channels 20, 30 and 40 year old movies replay.
Jaws, Speed, Shooter, Overboard, The Dark Knight
These stories have necessary elements. Not just good acting, sets, scores, editing
The stories have all the elements of either a boy-directed fairy tale, or Greek/Roman classic.
Villains Are antagonist by definition. They cannot carry a story as a protagonist.
That reason is the same one that explains why the advertising people have used the same ads in the magazines for 20-40 years.
Well that’s a great point. And I’m glad you included “Overboard” in that list. I always love to watch that movie—your post helps me understand why.
Wow like every single sentence in that post is blatantly wrong. Many many stories get retold where the main character is a villain. Heck, basically every Zeus story in Greek mythology, Zeus is a serious jerk, serial rapist, and causes wars mostly to get laid. More recently the big gothic horror burst of the 19th century. Dracula, Frankenstein, Dorian Gray. There’s really nothing at all new about it.
Harry Potter ain’t a villain.
The small list I provided shows these stories get talked about plenty.
Actually the reason the cheesy old movies are on the movie channels is that they’re available cheap.
Villains carry stories all the time. Often times because they’re a lot more interesting that good guys. They have more complex motives, more complex back stories, and are just generally more interesting.
