There is one big difference. Obama stated he was a Christian (yeah, I didn't believe it either!) and his surrogates all insisted that he was not a Muslim. Point being, there are many Americans who would not have voted for him if they knew that he was a practicing Muslim. Buttigieg will not be able to hid his sexual status, starting at the end of his acceptance speech, if he is nominated. And I do not care what the polls will say, there will be a portion of the electorate who will not say they are voting against him for his being gay, but will show it in the voting booth.
