BEIJING (AP) Japan says 41 new cases of a virus have been found on a cruise ship thats been quarantined in Yokohama harbor. That brings the total of cases to 61.
The death toll in mainland Chinas new virus outbreak has risen to 636, including a doctor who got in trouble with authorities in the communist country for sounding an early warning about the disease threat.
Two docked cruise ships with thousands of passengers and crew members remained under 14-day quarantines in Hong Kong and Japan.
Before Fridays 41 confirmed cases, 20 passengers who were found to have the virus were escorted off the Diamond Princess at Yokohama near Tokyo.

There is nothing less appealing to me than being stuck on a floating island with 1000+ other people. The stuff of nightmares.
Me too.
The only kind of cruise I would consider would be one that hosted 50-100 people max.
That type of cruise is a lot more expensive, and for me would be a once in a lifetime experience.
If they were all freepers I might.
wouldnt it be fun.
The Steyn cruises seem to be fun.
Reading on Twitter that Shenzen is under lockdown.
Or Bill Wittle.
Bingo
Feces is contaminated too. You could get it from smelling a fart of an infected person.
Can I say, I just dont understand these flu numbers. I have been watching the state by state flu deaths reported by health departments, and to date none even reach 100. Im not seeing anything near 10,000 that is claimed. Not saying it isnt bad, just that I dont understand the totals the CDC comes up with.
Airline, hotel and cruise ship stocks have taken a hit on Monday due to the virus. After these new cases on cruise ships things will go South pretty quick.
Great point! Thanks.

The 41 new cases are mostly in their 70’s and 80’s and include:
21 Japanese
8 Americans
5 Australians
5 Canadians
1 Argentinian
1 Brit
Looking at the pictures of this ship, I would say that this is not a good set up for quarantine. The balconies are staggered, and the virus can pass from that close of a distance. Plus, the staff serving food are likely not trained for the level of infection control required for a virus this transmissible.. Even knocking on doors to deliver food is cross-contamination if they dont wash between each delivery.
In my opinion, it would have been better if theyd evacuated the asymptomatic off the ship into true quarantine facilities, completely separate, and overseen by trained and properly protected healthcare providers.
I believe Japan is supposed to host the Olympics this summer.
This says there is a second cruise ship quarantined in Hong Kong. I knew about the Japan ship.
Also, I noticed one of the Canadian new cases had traveled to Macao. Macao closed it’s casinos for two weeks on 2/4. And Macao is only reporting 10 cases of Coronavirus. What are the odds that a Canadian traveling to Macao got the Coronavirus if there are only 10 cases in Macao???a
I suspect Macao is in worse shape than they are admitting.
The ship quarantine should last a lot longer than 14 days. If the incubation period is up to 14 days, then every time a new case is confirmed, the 14-day timer should be reset because that person could have passed it on to someone else on the day he’s taken off the ship.
At least that’s how it looks to me.
See post 36.
What is to ultimately come of these quarantined cruise ships??
Are any med ships going out to them...for virus, or general med treatment needs?
How are supplies getting to them?
Yeah I'm sure they're being care for. Would be nice to have some details though.
The Japan ship, they are transferring people diagnosed to the hospital. But keeping everyone else in quarantine. I understand it's up to 61.
THe Hong Kong ship has 3 so far. 1800 passengers and 1800 crew members so 3600 people.
