So I guess if you want justice in New York you have to ‘get it’ yourself because the government there will only put you in danger needlessly.
Taking the beating and keeping your mouth shut is the safer alternative...

That area is probably very anti-gun also.
So the government made it very hard to for the good guy to be armed, and allowed the bad guy out with his address.
The most insidious thing here is that the criminal could have simply shot one or more of the guy’s kids to get even, not even bothering to get him.
