A drop of 500 cases from yesterday.
Death numbers similar to yesterday.

Shipping of CDC 2019 Novel Coronavirus Diagnostic Test Kits Begins
Distribution of CDC Diagnostic Test Kits Will Expand Laboratory Capacity to Detect 2019-nCoV
A CDC-developed laboratory test kit to detect 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) began shipping on February 6, 2020, to select qualified U.S. and international laboratories. Distribution of the tests will help improve the global capacity to detect and respond to the 2019 novel coronavirus.
The test kit, called the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) Real-Time Reverse Transcriptase (RT)-PCR Diagnostic Panel (CDC 2019-nCoV Real Time RT-PCR), is designed for use with an existing RT-PCR testing instrument that is commonly used to test for seasonal influenza.
The CDC 2019 novel coronavirus test is intended for use with upper and lower respiratory specimens collected from people who meet CDC criteria for 2019-nCoV testing. The test uses a technology that can provide results in four hours from initial sample processing to result.
The test kit has not been FDA cleared or approved, however, distribution and use of the test kits follow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) February 4, 2020, issuance of an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). The tests are being shipped through the International Reagent Resource (IRR), a CDC-established mechanism that distributes laboratory reagents domestically and globally.
Initially, about 200 test kits will be distributed to U.S. domestic laboratories and a similar amount will be distributed to select international laboratories. Each test kit can test approximately 700 to 800 patient specimens. Additional test kits will be produced and made available for ordering in the future from the IRR. At this time, each laboratory that places an order will receive one 2019-nCoV test kit.
The number of severe and critical cases in Hubei rose by almost a third yesterday, from 3,084 to 4,002

Why isn’t he talking about number recovered?
The only way to track death and recovery rates of this virus will be countries outside China. Lets hope that the rest of the world can keep it from spreading to the point where it overtakes the ability for the health systems to care for the people who get this.
While Googling ‘twitter coronavirus’ and other search strings, I noted there seems to be some fires of unknown origin happening in Wuhan. Level of anger rising. Many fights.
That allows us to do a more contextual comparison between this coronavirus and the common flu.
According to Wiki, Flu cases in the US fluctuate each year, And have ranged from 9 million to 45 million over the last 10 years. And the deaths ranged from 12,000 to 61,000.
So thats about .13% deaths from the flu.
with the coronavirus, we have 31,800 pneumonia cases and 635 deaths to date - about 2% death rate.
IF There were actually twice as many coronavirus cases, and only half resulted in known pneumonia cases, the death rate would still be 1%, or almost 9x as deadly as the common flu.
Just an observation...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Thanks for the info.

I believe this ladys reports are direct from Wuhan. You must report your daily temperature to authorities or they come to get them.
Note that this is an MSM source, about ...ahem, a very highly placed government figure; not an obscure nobody sh!tposting for clicks, mmmkay?
The director of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), in a letter to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, requested that scientific experts "rapidly" look into the origins of the virus in order to address both the current spread and "to inform future outbreak preparation and better understand animal/human and environmental transmission aspects of coronaviruses."
... The director of the OSTP, Kelvin Droegemeier, wrote in the letter to the president of the National Academy of Sciences, Marcia McNutt, that a widely disputed paper on the origins -- subsequently withdrawn -- had shown the urgency for accurate information about the genesis of the outbreak.
... ABC News' Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton asked the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease about concerns that stem from misinformation online that the novel coronavirus could have been engineered or deliberately released.
"There's always that concern," Dr. Anthony Fauci said. "And one of the things that people are doing right now is very carefully looking at sequences to see if there's even any possibility much less likelihood that that's going on. And you could ultimately determine that. So people are looking at it, but right now, the focus is on what are we going to do about what we have."
61 cases now confirmed on that boat off of Tokyo

From another article:
“The repatriation of 565 Japanese citizens from Wuhan, China, in late January offered scientists an unexpected opportunity to learn a bit more about the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) raging in that city. To avoid domestic spread of the virus, Japanese officials screened every passenger for disease symptoms and tested them for the virus after they landed. Eight tested positive”
Here’s what I find worrying. 8 people of 565 Japanese citizens tested positive, so 1.5%. I figure that the Japanese who stayed there long enough to need evacuation are businessmen and pretty much live like the locals (albeit a bit more upscale). So the 1.5% number should be representative of the scale of the problem in Wuhan. BUT, if you project the 1.5% number to a population of 10 million, that would mean 150,000 CASES, in Wuhan alone. I looked back and the advertised number then (Jan 29 and 30) was about 8,000 cases, throughout China (although most in Wuhan). The higher number, 150,000, is more in-line with the leaked number over the weekend, that we all seemed to have forgotten about. And this much higher number much better accounts for the 24/7 crematoriums and huge hospital lines they had dating back nearly a month now.
This is where the math comes in again - it is worse, MUCH WORSE, than being advertised, at least in Wuhan, and probably the rest of China. I am glad for Japan that they took that extra step to test everyone, regardless of symptoms, as that knowledge is needed to start seriously addressing this epidemic...along with some 6th grade math to figure out that we’re being lied to.
