Climate change: Clean tech 'won't solve warming in time'
BBC News ^ | February 6, 2020 | By Roger Harrabin, BBC environment analyst

Breakthrough technologies such as carbon capture and hydrogen cannot be relied on to help the UK meet its climate change targets, a report says.

The government had hoped that both technologies would contribute to emissions reductions required by 2050.

They say the government must start a debate on other, controversial steps.

These actions, which they say would need to be implemented in the near-term, include cutting down on flying and eating red meat.

The report says: “Businesses and the public want to act to eliminate emissions, but exaggerated claims about the speed at which new technologies can be introduced are holding back progress."

To close the remaining energy gap, we could make incremental changes to the way we use technologies - such as buying smaller cars rather than SUVs.

Another option is to take the train instead of the car, or put more passengers in fewer cars (ride sharing).

Yet another possibility is to only heat rooms where people are sitting, and swap gas boilers for heat pumps when they need to be changed.

We must have socialism immediately or we will all die.

No tech is going to work if self-described “environmentalists” and “climate advocates” don’t themselves go ~100% “green” immediately. Shut off that coal/NG/propane heat, refuse gasoline/diesel transport, renewable energy sources only, stop using plastics, etc - all TODAY; if they don’t, the momentum toward where they want all to go won’t start, and the rest of us won’t believe they’re serious.

Pathetic that I’m more “green” than most “climate advocates”.

If it is not going to make a difference, then why bother?

OK.... if we buy smaller cars, how are we going to put more passengers in them ?

Clean tech might not solve warming in time, but will much of anything else the Greenie weenies are proposing, which is mostly, “Give us all your money and revert to the Late Stone Age in technology”?

Technology, like Amazing Grace, will be the thing that sets us free. So far as “fossil fuels” are concerned, we shall still be using them well into the 23rd Century, so trying to take that genie away and put it back in the bottle is a fool’s errand.

Not that we lack for any number of fools.

Proveying a mesage like this is a win-win for the climate alarmists in sheeps clothing.

1) It says that enough is never enough. We will always need to do more. Moving goalposts are the main weapon of manipulative sociopaths. It’s not about the goal. It’s about the manipulation.

2) This is a C.Y.A. for the fact that warming is natural, and bound to happen regardless of human intervention, given a long enough trend-line. So, when it does get warmer, they can blame it on the fact that enough was not done, and no one will be allowed to get a reprieve for their efforts.

Oh well, I guess we are all doomed.

“Yet another possibility is to only heat rooms where people are sitting...”

As though heating a room happens instantaneously.
Yeah, as long as everyone remains seated we’ll be OK.

Meanwhile, carbon emissions in the U.S. have plummeted to the lowest levels in twenty years thanks to fracking and the resulting cheap and abundant natural gas.

Of course, if you are really serious about cutting carbon emissions then you need to start building nuclear power plants.

Hoaxes need to be ignored and/or ridiculed and definitely not “problems to be solved”.

Breakthrough technologies such as carbon capture and hydrogen cannot be relied on to help the UK meet its climate change targets, a report says.

Their targets are completely meaningless. A couple coal plants in India will negate anything they do for carbon dioxide. If they were really concerned about the issue they would build their renewables in India, not the UK.

This is especially true talking 2050. Whatever tech they install now is going to be junk with expensive cleanup costs in 2050. 2050 is a reasonable target to start implementing new technologies.

I suppose giving even more money to socialists and “climate activists” will thwart this disaster..?

Forget even trying. Greta and Hollywood tells us we will be dead long before then.
