Manchin is def not a stay home consequence. He is a union slavery consequence. Not sure about the others. Nothing blue dog about him. He casts a kabuki vote when it will have no effect.

I think Manchin and Sinema figured they’d have to become Pubs if they voted to acquit, or the Dem Party would dump ‘em. Since Trump was in no danger of being removed, they could vote to acquit, and in 4 years, who remembers? Not many, and probably none who would vote for them anyway.
Jones is toast unless the Pub candidate makes a major stumble.

Jones likely concluded that he wasn’t going to beat Jeff Sessions in any case. So may as well stay in the good graces of his party.
I suspect that when Manchin is up for re-election Trump is going to spend a whole lot of time in West Virginia holding rallies. It’s a small state and it should not take a ton of effort to topple him.
Manchin is ranking member on the Senate energy committee. Looks like he was given that perk over a much more senior Senator, Cantwell. He’s in line to chair the committee should the Dems retake the Senate. Since Manchin is not on the ballot for 4 years he really has nothing to gain to vote to acquit now and everything to lose.
Interesting when David Muir’s Whirled News showed the Senate vote.
Of course they played Romney’s Guilty, and for the Dem side, they ‘randomly’ picked one vote, Manchin - by name.
Jenkins was too squishy and left-leaning. He got a better gig on the WV Supreme Court, anyhow. If Morrisey couldn’t beat Manchin, Jenkins wouldn’t have, either.
The voters chose a slick, lifelong politician phony who tried to have it both ways. It’s astonishing they weren’t wiser than that. A ficus plant with an “R” should’ve beaten him.
The RINO Establishment wanted Jones. They got him. Chief Justice Moore was too much a threat to the corrupt Derp State.
Josh Mandel would’ve curbstomped Brown in Ohio in the rematch, and the polls bore that out (and the GOP swept statewide in 2018). I wonder what really happened with him to withdraw. We almost never get the truth, but I think many of our good people are threatened in some way, why so many choose not to run. Why wants to have themselves and their family subjected to the treatment given to Palin or Trump ? There should be at least 60 Senate Republicans today.

Rockefeller did that too. He would acquire an accent and a new wardrobe whenever he came back and campaigned. I remember seeing him in Charleston and the southern parts of the state sounding native and in jeans & a flannel shirt.

Boring speaker, lackluster campaigner very vulnerable to the carpetbagger charge. Former drug industry lobbyist (wife still is!) and not a native son. (Very important in Appalachia! Unless you have lots of money!) Manchin’s campaign constantly played the native son card. Had WV sports legends cut commercials for example Jerry West & Don Nehlen. I didn’t see a single commercial saying what Manchin has accomplished as a senator. That’s because he had no accomplishments!
Manchin also wants to run for President on the Rat ticket. He can’t do that and vote to acquit.
