Are you just dividing reported deaths by reported cases? That doesn't give you a fatality rate (at least, it doesn't until the virus has stopped spreading). That number (4.25%) is essentially meaningless. The only value to the number is that, assuming the data is valid, the lowest possible fatality rate is 4.25%. Given the other factors (time from diagnosis to death, r-naught, etc.), the real fatality rate would be dramatically higher than 4.25%.

Fortunately, the numbers coming out of China are such garbage, that these types of calculations are a perfect example of the principle of garbage-in, garbage-out.

I don't think we have usable numbers to extrapolate mortality. You can't use "deaths/positive", as those positive for the virus are not yet resolved, and some number of them will die. You have to use deaths/recovered, and we have almost no information or numbers of infected people recovering. What we do have is a significant percentage of those infected requiring "intensive care", and that can quickly overwhelm hospitals. By the indications from China, this virus will have a very high mortality rate without medical care.
