The Senate on Wednesday voted almost entirely along party lines to acquit President Donald Trump on abuse of power.

On the first of two articles of impeachment, Republican Mitt Romney of Utah voted to convict Trump, along with all Democrats and independents.

Trump is expected to be acquitted in the vote on the second article, obstruction of Congress, in a party-line vote with all Republicans voting to acquit and all Democrats voting to convict

As a Mormon friend of mine put it, "Being an ingrate is not an LDS value."

Trump enthusiastically supported Romney in 2012 and endorsed him for the U.S. Senate seat when he couldn't win the party nomination outright.

This is how Romney returns the favor.

From now on, the proper response to anyone who bitches about Trump’s “unpresidential” behavior is just this: “He acquits himself well.”

Mitt voted not guilty on second charge of obstruction of Congress. It would have been a sweep for acquittal by Republicans, but for Half-Mitt.

Romney needs to go. He needs to be kicked out of the GOP and Utah needs to hold another election to replace him.

Why anyone thought Sinema would vote No, I don’t know.

I watched Mitt last night yukking it up with Lamar Alexander, both of them standing and cheering at the dutiful times. I said out loud, “both of them will pull out their daggers tomorrow.” So Alexander, at least, surprised me.

Regardless of all the screaming today, I still say Mitt owns Utah for as long as he wants.

I don’t think that’s it. Romney gave the Dems cover. When Romney announced he would vote to convict, they flipped.

Well maybe it will backfire on them in the end. The fact that they were following Romney won’t save their ass in the next election.

“Asked afterwards if he was worried about the decision’s impact on his reelection, Jones said, “No. It has never crossed my mind.””

The smell of BS is in the air.

This impeachment hoax should be vacated. Democrats were voting to undo the election.

And there was no reason for them to vote to acquit, no upside

Romney can definitely be blamed for that. We could have had Manchin and maybe others were it not for Romney. The issue is the long run historical view of the impeachment. It will no longer be a "strictly partisan" impeachment. Now it will be a "mostly partisan" impeachment like Clinton's. They had some incentive to cross party lines before but not with the Romney on their side.

Media jackals elated about Romney’s vote. Their reporting on the vote is intended to sound as if Trump is actually guilty of something. The Romney betrayal gives them cover to do this.

Once President Trump is reelected, to me, this gives PDJT free reign to go after the Ukrainian corruption. That should Romney into the mix.
