The newest of these was a little unusual because it was based on a pre-print of a real scientific paper, (since removed just a few hours ago) uploaded to website bioRxiv, where scientists can present their completed, or near-completed studies, prior to peer-review by other scientists. The work, by a group based in India, was entitled Uncanny similarity of unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV spike protein to HIV-1 gp120 and Gag.

This story has a bearing on a story I posted Sunday night; apparently the underlying paper has been retracted.
Here's a link to the original, which was moved to chat:
Scientists Confirm Coronavirus Man-Made
Contains pShuttle-SN Sequence Proving Laboratory Origin.
The jury is still out. Another suggestion is that the virus derives from an attempt by China to create a vaccine, which accidentally had the negative result of reducing immunity to some viruses; hence the outbreak.
Not certain we’ll ever know.
Damn, if HIV was involved, our government would be forced to take this a bit more seriously than simple temperature checks for those returning from China.
So we can stop freaking out about “airborne AIDS”? Or should we continue freaking out just in case?
Moderately Strong Confirmation of a Laboratory Origin of 2019-nCoV
This dude’s the real deal. Perhaps not weaponized but not naturally likely either.
Thanks Steely Tom.
Underlying paper retracted.
But not refuted.
All of you were right for calling the story I posted the other night not credible.
Really? Then please tell us WHY AREVTHE CHINESE TREATING INFECTED PEOPLE WITH HIV DRUGS? Or is that a myth too?
It didn’t survive peer review. It doesn’t have to be refuted as others did that already.
Dude, antivirals and antiretrovirals used to treat AIDS (and now the coronavirus) are used to treat other diseases too. Human Papilloma Virus and Hepatitis C, to name two. It is rare that medications can only be used for one disease.
Or would you say that everyone prescribed atropine has been exposed to nerve agents because “atropine is a nerve agent antidote,” hm?
Thanks, didn’t know Forbes was now the PR agency for the CCP.
It was shut down for political reasons.
The bastion of science is reproducibility.
Every single conclusion the Indian dudes made is reproducible. Easily. With off the shelf software that’s free.
The long arm of CCP/PLA in western science labs isn’t limited to the Chem dept at Harvard. Pull their chain, they bark on command.
There are a LOT of western interests in that Wuhan virology lab.
In fact Dr. Lieber, the harvard prof ARRESTED for espionage, had an interest in that very same Wuhan virology department.
Don’t be a private in the 50c army.
This paper was ‘peer reviewed’ like those of someone refuting the ‘climate crisis’. And for the same reasons. Trillions of dollars of investment in china are at stake.
Sure, I believe everything the MSM vomits out. They violated the public trust and public contract and will never recover from it. Lying subversive bastards.
Forbes is one of those MSM publications that is always going to report whatever they are told to report. They take orders.
Freepers *here* and in threads you participated in pointed out the problems with it at the time. Harvard wasn’t the only place that poked holes in it.
There’s also the fact that this is an RNA virus. RNA viruses have a nasty habit of copying parts of things they ‘see’ which is why they are hard to fight. There are already known examples of other RNA viruses taking on board parts of AIDS strains completely without outside human interference.

"This was covered extensively in a thread yesterday. The author of the article is not a virologist but rather a computer nerd with a specialty in bio-science. The reason the article was withdrawn is that real virologists were critical of it. The publisher is not a peer reviewed site, but rather a pre-publishing site used to check for duplicate plagiarism in papers before submission by comparison with already published papers.
"A Freepers son who is in the field wrote a criticism that pointed out its not unusual to get false duplicate strands like what is being reported."

"I was just commenting the same thing. He is working on a theory, he is not stating it is fact.
"He should keep his theory close to himself. They are talking about him across a lot of forum/sites now. This could ruin his career."
