Iowa Democratic vote-reporting meltdown hands opening to Trump
CNN ^ | Feb 4, 2020 | Analysis by Stephen Collinson, CNN

(CNN)The Democratic 2020 crusade to oust President Donald Trump could not have got off to a more disastrous and embarrassing start.

The party couldn't even deliver a first-in-the-nation election night winner after a vote-reporting debacle in Iowa — where candidates spent months and millions of dollars vying for a glittering opening prize in their nominating duel.

"Iowa, you have shocked the nation," said former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

It was a bold attempt to declare victory in the absence of a result, but the 38-year-old inadvertently cast an ironic judgment on a political train wreck.

The big Hawkeye State miss will be agonizing for whoever comes out on top but for any candidates who under performed -- perhaps former Vice President Joe Biden -- it might turn into a priceless lifeline.

The caucus nightmare also played right into the hands of a President spoiling for months to brand his rivals as weak, disorganized and even worse — plotting to rig the results to hand its crown to an establishment favorite. There's little doubt that Trump, who consistently erodes distrust in institutions and governing systems, will weaponize such a narrative if it looks like he will lose in November.

Trump operatives are already spinning conspiracy theories and disinformation about what the Iowa Democratic Party said were "inconsistencies" in its results. Their aim is to create a narrative that tars the eventual nominee as illegitimate. And on the eve of his State of the Union address and two days before he's set to be acquitted in his impeachment trial, things cannot have worked out better for the President.

"It would be natural for people to doubt the fairness of the process. And these are the people who want to run our entire health care system?” ...

“and that’s CNN reporting”

my first thought as well ... i bet they agonized for hours over how to spin this for the Dems, but finally were forced to just give up and report the truth ... and surely, reporting the truth must have galled them to no end ...

“Trump’s formidable turnout machine, which is being built with his massive campaign war chest”

i strongly suspect that Trump’s “formidable turnout machine” is mostly a function of signing up volunteers as his rallies ...

btw, how delightful is it to see the change in reporting of 2016 that “he’s got no ground game” to “Trump’s formidable turnout machine”?

If P.J. O'Rourke hadn't switched parties, he'd probably have something amusing to say about the DNC's fiasco. Thanks 11th_VA.

“Trump has 97% Republican backing? Conviction on the bogus impeachment charges are DOA. Not even the RINOs are going to vote to convict.”

that’s a good point. i never thought about the positive impact that waiting until after the Iowa caucus might have on the final vote for acquittal, though i’ve always thought that all 53 GOP Senators would vote to acquit, even though a few of them thought it necessary to grandstand ...

they really have no choice because an attack on their leader is an attack on their party and themselves and i’m sure one of the points of the impeachment by the Dems was to try to wedge open any cracks in GOP unity ... but the Dems will fail, and the result has been to force the GOP to circle the wagons and vastly deepen their unlikely unity as a means of self-survival ...

and to me, the supreme irony of all of this is that the Dems’ mindless and uncontrollable hate and rage of President Trump was ultimately the driving force of that unity, as well as the ridiculous profusion of their many other self-destructive acts ...

Hillary is slipping into the Democrat nomination!

Wonder if they’ll throw the side of beef into the nomination the way Dr. Diazepam threw her into the van?

“Who let this ‘journalist’ actually write this driveling material? “

are you kidding? this is CNN ... their writers are FORCED to salt their articles with that kind of nonsense whenever they’re reduced to reporting negative stuff about the Dems in those rare circumstances that their spin machine grinds to a halt and they have no other alternative than to report part of the actual truth ...

"Trump operatives are already spinning conspiracy theories and disinformation about what the Iowa Democratic Party said were "inconsistencies" in its results. Their aim is to create a narrative that tars the eventual nominee as illegitimate."

Excuse me, just which Trump operatives are saying this? Coming from CNN who has not accepted the legitimacy of Trump's election for three years?

The only people talking about inconsistencies and concerns over legitimacy are Democrats. Sanders's campaign is saying this primary isn't rigged like the last one. So now it is OK for Democrats to admit the 2016 primary was rigged. It was Democrats who did not release the results over inconsistencies. It is the Democrats who are saying the back up system of calling in the results failed. How is that possible for the precincts to call in results separately from a app fail?

CNN is blaming Trump for what Democrats have said and done to themselves.

“THAT IS ALL CNN DOES 24/7/365. IT’S WHAT THEY DO!!!!”

indeed ... but it’s obviously a BAD thing if anyone else besides themselves want to create a narrative, especially the GOP, and double-especially if Orange Man Bad does it ...

“It means there’s an open position for an editor.”

as the media fails financially, they’ve been firing editors and other “unnecessary” employees by the thousands over the last few years; in fact, editors were among the first to do ... so i doubt there are any open positions for editors: those positions were eliminated long ago ...

The Department of Homeland Security Cyber Security group (as is customary) offered to assist the Iowa Rat Party by helping them test their APP and backup systems. The Tards rejected the offer.

Meanwhile, nothing went wrong at the Iowa Republican caucus last night; the state GOP actually uses qualified experts instead of dull-normal incompetents.

“ Results will be reported later today, and this debacle will start fading into the background within a couple days.”

Ah, but not the point. Now, no one will believe the results. Everyone everywhere will think they’re trying to cook the books a’la Hillary again.

Corruption and incompetence. Two great tastes that taste great together.

Don’t be an ostrich. Fantastical stuff exists, but “Shadow” is a clinton-funded company; and, Mayor Pete Buttboy paid her company $10,000. That isn’t some Sundance daydream.

Coincidences don’t exist. These people want to stay out of jail and keep their $$$ coming in. Self-preservation, coupled with Satanism, no moral compass, end justifies the means, makes people rationalize anything.
