I now remember how confused Mark Steyn was when he was talking about Rush’s absences. He even made a joke that he didn’t know what was going on. He was obviously being kept in the dark.

I remember that, too. Hate to say it, but this is exactly what I feared. Rush's voice has changed so much over the years, and it probably had to do with years of smoking. *Why* did he have to be such a heavy smoker??

I always thought the vocal change was from hearing loss and years and years of broadcasting. Never connected it to smoking. Now I’m nagging my husband about HIS cigars.

GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! Rush was like a family member to us... NOT FREAKIN FAIR!!

Amen, Rose! Yet the evil, despicable George Soros lives on and on!

Rush most certainly feels like a close friend or family member. I'm still in tears here. My heart feels like it's in my throat... 😢😢😢

BTW, one of the deepest regrets I have leaving NYC is not hearing Mark Simone - one of the funniest and most cynically smart people in broadcasting. I sometimes catch up with him on I Heart Radio.

That's part of it, but his voice has gotten so *gravelly* over the past 10 or so years. I have family members who smoke / or used to smoke who got that same gravelly voice after years of smoking.

Keep nagging him! Glad Hubby and I never smoked. I used to have bronchitis, etc. a lot when I was a kid. I never liked smoke in my lungs, period. I used to nag my (late) father about his cigarette smoking.

Of course -- to be fair -- there are some people who have never smoked, and they still get lung cancer. I think the culprit is mainly radon (?) or other 'environmental' causes.

I've heard Mark Simone several times, but we don't have him on radio here in the Hartford/Springfield, MA radio market. He's good. We're just far enough away from NYC where WABC / WOR don't come in, although I can get WABC, WCBS, WFAN and 1010 WINS in the car (not WOR).

I also enjoy Chris Plante in Washington, DC. But... have to listen to them all online. Wish I could simply turn on the radio and hear them!

From 3-6pm I usually listen to Howie Carr on local radio out of Springfield, MA. He's a nationally syndicated conservative talk show host based in Boston. He and his sidekicks can be hilariously funny. Of course *no one* is laughing today because of Rush's news.... 😢

Rush is a national treasure.

He sure is. As Sean Hannity just said: "Rush is the King... the Babe Ruth of conservative talk radio. He's irreplaceable."

😢

Just got wind of Limbaugh’s cancer. I was unable to hear live. Sounds though like he waited to the end of show to announce and mainly since he will have to get treatments that will affect him being in studio. I began hearing Mr. Limbaugh in 91 and followed him on and off over the years. But really got into him when big news broke and since 2007. I recall his broadcast on 9/11/01. He is a favorite of mine. I wish him the best. This is sad news. Rush also worked for the mlb team in my area in marketing before launching his radio career. Chiefs the football team across the parking lot won SB last night. Rush used to live in Kansas City.

Thanks for letting me know, FRiend. I just went to Rush's site and saw it. I needed to read it, as I missed some of what Rush said, since I was screaming NOOOO!!! after I heard: "I've been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer..."

I sent the link to numerous family members and friends, as some of them missed Rush's announcement at the end of his show.

I still cannot believe it...

I remember the day my wife called me at work and said...

“There is a guy on KINS radio who sounds like you (Me)”
He was on a station in Sacramento and it was not long until a syndication picked him out and transplanted him in New York city. Somewhere during that time he started his RUSH to Excellence tours and 10 small businesses like ours sponsored him twice to come to Eureka and speak. First one was at HSU in Arcata and the local communist went nuts so the next appearance was at the Eureka Municipal Auditorium and another packed house. The sponsors got to meet with him privately prior to his hour on stage and we were all drinking but he said he did not drink and it took a bit for me to digest that. In those days he took the Red Eye special commercial flights on Friday nights to travel to his events...
(Message to RUSH I love you brother)

It has been a struggle to get my head around this thing, and you KNOW he is not going to want to talk about it any more on his shows.
