President Trump said in an interview broadcast Sunday that he thinks Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a communist.
Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump in an interview that aired prior to Super Bowl LIV for quick reactions to a number of Democratic presidential candidates, including Sanders.
"I think he’s a communist. I mean, you know, look, I think of communism when I think of Bernie," Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity.
"Now, you could say socialist, but didn’t he get married in Moscow?" Trump added, with Hannity interjecting to note Sanders went to the former Soviet Union on his honeymoon.
"I think of Bernie sort of as a socialist but far beyond a socialist," Trump continued. "At least he’s true to what he believes."
Trump's comments were broadcast a day before the Iowa caucuses. Sanders, who identifies as a democratic socialist, has been leading in the most recent polls in the state.
The president and his campaign last month started focusing additional attention on Sanders, who has consistently been among the best-performing candidates in polls alongside former Vice President Joe Biden.

Can’t wait to see what the media “fact-checkers” will do with that statement. Seriously, is there much doubt that Bernie is a communist? His most faithful supporters are. Yet the media will treat this as heresy and split all kinds of theological hairs differentiating between ‘socialist’ and ‘communist’.

The Dims will check President Trump and proclaim far and wide that Sanders honeymooned in Russia.

Trump is opening the door to a campaign theme — one that will have a chilling-effect on the DNC. They’re already working overtime to scr3w Bernie out of the nomination for a second straight time.
This way PDJT starts early, forcing Bernie to explain the difference between a “socialist” and a “communist.”
Then he can get bogged down in a discussion of how these systems just haven’t been implemented by the right people yet.
Then PDJT can attack from the flanks, from the front, from the rear, from below, and from above. We should have this discussion now, and Bernie is about the least appealing, most obviously daft, most awful spokesman for communism we could hope for.
Warren isn’t that far behind him, and she’s a gun grabber and chronic lier to boot.
Some of the comments on this thread strike me as rather condescending to DJT.
Of course, we FReepers have known all along that Sanders is a potential American Lenin. That’s because we’re among a relative minority that follow the news with a critical eye.
Or to put it more simply, we’re paying attention. But the public at large is still largely unaware of Sanders’ true leanings.
Trump is about the only politician with the guts to call out this dangerous, power-hungry madman.

Well, the CPUSA back in 2016 said Sanders’ movement might not be the revolution, but it was a step in the right direction. I guess they ought to know.
He also said he thought the sun may come up in the East in the morning.

Bernie is a communist and the democratic party lets him run for president as if he’s a member of their party. But maybe the democratic party is actually the communist party. Could be.
I like that statement. It sums up the world rather well.

We have to be careful not to give any respect for “at least he is true to what he believes” since you could say the same about Hitler and Stalin.
In this case, what he believes is such a negative that being true to it adds no value. But at the same time, what real difference is there between BS and the rest of them? (not meant to be a joke although I am laughing at it)
