The point of the exercise is that Peachmint! used to be Impeachment - a political act performed within the constraints of constitutional law. What Piglosi did was to strip away any pretense of objective due process - made it a purely political process.
She doesn’t need crimes as long as she has votes (but she miscalculated when she tried to take down Trump).

why not? Now that impeachment is a purely political act with no need for actual crimes to have been committed, there are no further impediments.
