A new poll reveals that 40 percent of Americans would prefer student debt forgiveness to universal health care. Student loan debt in America topped $1.7 trillion last week.
According to a report by the College Fix, a new survey revealed that 40 percent of Americans prefer total student debt forgiveness to universal health care.
The survey, which was conducted by LendEDU, revealed that nearly half of Americans would support student debt forgiveness, which would cost approximately $1.7 trillion. Meanwhile, providing universal health care would cost much more. Analysts estimate that providing free healthcare to all Americans would cost between $25 trillion and $36 trillion.
While the complete cancellation of this nations $1.61 trillion in outstanding student loan debt would presumably cost somewhere around that figure, the estimated price of free universal health care would likely fall somewhere between $25 trillion and $36 trillion over 10 years according to various plans from think-tanks and economists.
Perhaps, like most things, the answer lies in the pockets of Americans. While recent student loan borrowers owe $28,565 in student loan debt, the costs of health care over a lifetime will usually far exceed that.
Breitbart News reported last week on a viral video in which a father confronted presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren over her proposal to erase student loan debt. So youre going to pay for people who didnt save any money and those of us who did the right thing get screwed? the father asked Warren.
Breitbart News reported in October that employees at Sallie Mae, a consumer bank that provides loans for college, were gifted vacations to Hawaii. The Sallie Mae trip to Hawaii took place as total student loan debt in American topped $1.6 trillion.

The argument for forgiveness is simple enough, carrying a large debt through life is a difficult burden. The arguments against usually amount to fairness and the impact on government debt.
So what should a politician do when they are up against another promising debt relief in return for their vote.
First some ethical understanding of the situation. Yes the students agreed to pay back their loans at the time. And their is a moral obligation toward that.
But if your are intellectually honest and understand our banking system you would have to balance that with the fraudulent way banks are legally allowed to create money that does not exist.
Combine that with how the educational system in our country has become a predatory money making scheme enrolling students based on financial return rather than the students ability to succeed.
And with this understanding we find the students are not the only ones morally culpable in this problem.
And so understanding a position must be taken to avoid losing votes to unsavory politicians who can win a position and do much more harm to the country.
This is why interest forgiveness for students instead of an entire debt forgiveness would be a viable balanced approach for a candidate.
This would hold the student accountable to pay back the amount they borrowed but relieve them of the burden of which interest brings.
Or we can be self righteous hoping the millennials who now make up a large portion of the vote and who are emotional voters due to the nature of their upbringing will not be swayed to vote for a Bernie Sanders promising them relief.
And maybe there is a bit of charity we need to be open to as well.
Canceling ALL H-1B visas would solve the problem without any legislation or other action.. Suppressed wages would go up for college grads and they could afford the tuition..
That’s like choosing between the purple-spotted vegetarian T-Rex and the pink fluffy unicorn dancing on the rainbow.
This is why I’m going to work today, I did the old math and it says finish that job so you can get the check.
How about retroactively forgiving all the mortgages and car loans I paid over the years?
Wonder how many would choose the equivalent amount in Amazon Prime credit?
Just different flavors of Free S#it...
Sounds like that there are 40% of Americans who have a massive student debt..and THEY want it wiped off.... we all in the end want to vote what is to our best interest, wiping off the student debt... if NOT law and order, it creates disorder.
If people knew that over 50% of student loan debt was for graduate school, do you think they would still want to use taxpayer money to pay the loans off?
I’d prefer neither.
I’d prefer we deport ALL illegal aliens and then see how much money is left to do things for the citizens after they are no longer sucking us dry.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Why The Hell are students so special?
I want ALL debt forgiven.
Crap in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first.
It is 40 years before they need free health care. 2060 is where they aught’a be.
And Democrat who worked and paid off their ow student debt will be pi$$ed.
We’re already seeing that.
I know I paid off mine.

Duh. When you poll the people who get the free sh** they vote in their favor.
Fine. If they ever did it, pair it with Federal Regulations requiring bankable degrees such as Engineering and the like if you are going to get a loan in the future. Disallow any and all frivilous “studies” courses. Also expand loan availability for trade/vocational school educations.
And those that have massive student debt are probably young enough to have few medical problems.
What if it was for gender studies, theatre arts or film making?
I’ll take the cat who likes you.
