Vote to acquit Trump postponed after moderate GOP senators rebelled

The Senate vote that is expected to acquit President Donald Trump of the articles of impeachment against him will be held on Wednesday. This comes after Senate leaders received pushback from Democrats and moderate Republicans about holding the vote either Friday night or Saturday.

The Hill quoted unnamed sources saying moderate Republicans did not support a quick vote after Friday's dramatic 51-49 vote to reject calling new witnesses in the trial.

The Hill quoted an unnamed Republican senator as saying a few GOP senators opposed the plan for a Friday or Saturday vote, threatening the unity needed to acquit Trump.

“For us to do to what we want to do, we all got to want to do it,” the senator said.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, a moderate who supported calling witnesses, reportedly wanted time for deliberations before the final vote.

Republican Sen. Mike Braun of Indiana, speaking of a meeting among GOP senators, said there was "some feverish discussion."

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, who also voted to call witnesses, did not object to a quick vote. “Other members have expressed concerns however," a reported GOP aide said after a meeting among moderates Romney, Collins, Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

do the idiots think that they are going to find 67 votes to convict? Why extend the inevitable? To what purpose? So a few senators can have their chance to retry the case in ten minutes or less?

It was timed for after the State of the Union no doubt. Trump doesn’t care. He’s not as small minded as they think he is.

Anyway, as much as we always say, the Dems will never stop, I like to keep in mind how the Dems must feel when no matter what they do,
Trump always comes out ahead. He will in this case.

I’m going with Mark Steyn’s point, bring on the witnesses. Let’s hear from everyone in this ridiculousness.

Doesn't really matter does it?

The next impeachment push was written months ago and gets pulled out of the cabinet within minutes of the formal acquittal.

Impeachment, it's what's for dinner. Breakfast. Lunch. Snacks

A vote on the articles must be passed by 67 Senators. It fails below tat threshold. What is this nonsense?

As you say. They can't stop, it's quite literally all they've got.

What else can they run on? Their record? Their results?

Romney’s jealousy is patent ( and nauseating, he’s a HilLIARy in drag). Collins is a super- sized disappointment again ( as she’s been on a number of other issues). The communist-nazi- D party is still going to make up new lies and fake charges. Watching it’s suicide as we type ...

No, Trump doesn’t care, but we’ll see MSM stories from an “unnamed insider” about how he “raged” (always that word) because he wasn’t acquitted before the SOTU.

A real majority leader wouldn’t have even accepted the articles, as they were/are fraudulent and didn’t meet the requirements. TURDle isn’t done yet with his $hakedown. There is always a $$$ price to pay for everything he does, by someone or some organization.

It would be better that a majority voted for acquittal. A majority vote for conviction, even if it falls short of 2/3, would be spun as "He's GUILTY" by the Democrats from this point on.
