Sorry folks. It looks like this trial is not over yet. Although the Senate voted down the option to call forth more witnesses Friday night, the actual vote on the two articles of impeachment, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, has been delayed until next Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, following a few rounds of closing arguments. The new schedule means the vote is arriving the day after President Trump is delivering his fourth State of the Union.
Sen. Blunt tells @LACaldwellDC leaders have arrived at a deal:
- Resolution tonight with four amendments
-Nothing happening this weekend
-Monday: closing arguments
-Tuesday and Wednesday: public deliberations
-Vote Wednesday at 4PM ET on articles— Geoff Bennett (@GeoffRBennett) January 31, 2020
The White House predicted the timing will give Trump the opportunity to deliver a "one-two punch."
WH's Eric Ueland on State of the Union, followed by impeachment verdict votes back to back: It's a strong one-two punch..We believe that both these elements your going to see play out next week help bring focus to the president successes, where he's going to take the country— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) February 1, 2020
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) put an extra nail in the coffin for the Democrats' plan to call additional witnesses when she revealed her "no" vote on Friday.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that this should be the last straw. The House Democrats had their chance to try and make a case and they blew it.
"There is no need for the Senate to re-open the investigation which the House Democratic majority chose to conclude and which the Managers themselves continue to describe as “overwhelming” and “beyond any doubt,” McConnell said in a statement on Friday. "Never in Senate history has this body paused an impeachment trial to pursue additional witnesses with unresolved questions of executive privilege that would require protracted litigation. We have no interest in establishing such a new precedent, particularly for individuals whom the House expressly chose not to pursue."
Democrats have been clamoring to call former national security adviser John Bolton as a witness, especially after the manuscript for his new book leaked. In it, Bolton reportedly claims that President Trump did tie Ukrainian aid to an investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden and their ties to a corrupt Ukrainian gas company, Burisma Holdings. Trump responded by sharing a clip of Bolton telling the press that his phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky was nothing but "warm and cordial" and that Trump was intent on rooting out corruption. He said nothing about his re-election.

Is it before November?
If it is his call he needs to postpone the SoTU.
This ruling only gives the Dems more time to bash our President, which they will do up until the last minute.
“The Senate Finally Reaches a Deal on When to Vote on the Articles”
It took them 10 hours to write this?
I guess the ‘finally” was their attempt to disguise their tardiness.
This article was posted yesterday at 6:40 PM.
Whatever you’re talking about, I hope so.
Allowing the Dems and the Media to howl about the Bolton book excerpt leak supposedly making the claim that our President did indeed delay the aid money contingent upon an investigation of Biden was once again pure genius.
Then, the President drops an anvil on their heads with the release of the video of Bolton being interviewed on this very subject where Bolton describes a totally appropriate conversation between President Trump and Zelensky.
We have been and continue to watch a Master of Strategy and timing at work. So, very satisfying to see the way President Trump plays those fools.
It sure was. I didn’t even notice the date
OK. The FR page showed today.
No problem, I only checked because of the way it started out. :^)
levity?
The rest of today, all day Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and most of the day Wednesday, they know they are going to lose. It's downright humiliating to make them wait to get the whole thing over.
Tomorrow it will be talked about extensively.
It will be non-stop laughs at their expense. Pelosi is already trying to crawl out from under all this. Good luck.
The demoncRats deserve it.
Hey Nancy, Adam, Jerry, and Chuckie... enjoy!
President Trump should postpone his SOU address to an hour and and a day after they close off this sham, clusterfuc*, fake, ‘RAT hoax of an impeachment, so as to take the high ground of acquittal.
This has been a mess, but I think we may have dodged a very serious constitutional crisis. By the way the Dems were begging to throw this case to Roberts I believe they had already coordinated with him and expected him to be prejudiced against Trump. Trial judges are never the last answer, but where do you appeal when the biased trial judge is the chief justice?
Will any pens be involved?
Please postpone the state of union.
Jerks. I have surgery Wednesday and wanted the vote done before.
RINOs! This should have been done 2 weeks ago.
Don’t worry. By Wednesday they will have come up with an excuse to delay the vote for two more weeks. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats want this to end, yet. The “yet” being President Trump’s removal from Office. The Republicans are looking for a way to help the Democrats remove him without getting caught.
Did the writer just wake up?
