Pence aide who testified during impeachment inquiry requests early departure

Jennifer Williams, a foreign service officer and aide to Vice President Pence who testified in the House impeachment inquiry, has asked to leave her post early.

Politico reported Thursday that Williams, who is on detail from the State Department, plans to leave her position in Pence’s office early in order to join Central Command.

Pence’s chief of staff Marc Short subsequently told The Hill in a statement that Williams had requested an early departure from her role, set to end in March, and that the office is “evaluating her request.”

“Jennifer Williams, a State Department employee detailed to the Vice President’s office, requested in writing an early departure. Ms. Williams’ original scheduled departure date was the end of March,” Short said. “The Office of the Vice President is evaluating her request.”

The vice president’s office did not immediately respond to a question about when the office would conclude its evaluation of her request or where Williams planned to go.

According to Politico, Williams is expected to leave her position on Monday to join Central Command as a foreign policy adviser working on Middle East policy issues, beginning in the spring.

Williams testified both privately and publicly in connection with the House impeachment inquiry. She was among a handful of officials who listened in on President Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and testified that she believed it to be “unusual and inappropriate.”

Trump criticized Williams on Twitter in November after a transcript of her closed-door testimony was released, calling her and other witnesses “Never Trumpers” and suggesting her testimony was meant as an “attack” against him.

Trump should REFUSE the request.

They should sit her in a corner in the sub-basement of the State Department, four feet from a men’s room, editing status reports on Vanuatu and the Republic of the Maldives.

First Nadler and now this paraquat. The rats are leaving the sinking ship. I’m sure Chuck Schumer and Pelosi will have family emergencies in the next day or so, too.

This is a story about nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. In the federal system, everyone who is looking to build their career rotates jobs every few years. This is not only normal, but if you don’t do it, people may start wondering if you are any good at your current job.

After a rotation at the White House, a state department official probably gets pushed to the front of the line for just about any follow-on assignment, but especially in the state department, the good jobs go quickly and if they’re overseas, probably can’t sit idle for months on end. There’s a lot of variation in the types and quality of overseas assignments for FAOs. She’s asking for an early departure two months early to take one of those gigs is all.

I thought that it was a very very dumb move on her part to testify. What the heck was she thinking? She, above all, embarrassed Pence.

Well, I’d guess Central Command would be the next location of the Take Down Trump cabal. I like Gutfeld’s idea of finding an empty building across the Potomac and moving all these NSC and Never Trumpers out of the White House.

I thought Williams gave decent testimony during the impeachment inquiry and seemed like a fairly nonpartisan witness.

She certainly wasn’t the drama queen Vindman was.

Probably looking to get out of the State Department. Is the CENTCOM job a detail or is it a new job.

It’s not just Trump. The State Department has been sniping at Republican Presidents for decades.

We will never get rid of Obama’s malignant cancers in the body politic. This is why government workers should never have been allowed to join a union.
