COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson filed a lawsuit Wednesday with the state Supreme Court asking the court to strike down numerous ordinances adopted by the city of Columbia concerning guns, according to a news release...
(snip)
Wilson's office said, since 2015 Columbia has passed ordinances that would allow the city to confiscate firearms from those people who have Extreme Risk Protection Orders against them; banning the possession of firearms within 1000 feet of a public or private school; and prohibiting homemade firearms which have no serial number (known as ghost guns).
Wilson believes the ordinances violate state law and the Second Amendment.

Alan Wilson, South Carolina’s attorney general, is suing the communist mayor of Columbia, the state’s capital, for passing an unconstitutional red flag law.
“banning the possession of firearms within 1000 feet of a public or private school”
Hold on, didn’t that stop the potential perps of Columbine or Marjory Stoneman?

The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) is an act of the U.S. Congress prohibiting any unauthorized individual from knowingly possessing a loaded or unsecured firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(25). The law applies to public, private, and parochial elementary schools and high schools, and to non-private property within 1000 feet of them. It provides that the states and their political subdivisions may issue licenses that exempt the licensed individuals from the prohibition.

Good to see the grown-ups in charge of SC state government. The city of Columbia, not so much.
Alan Wilson should succeed McMaster as Governor.
I went to vote at the local fire station at the 2018 mid-terms and found some guy standing in the middle of the parking lot somewhat blocking access to a couple of open spaces.
I squeezed in and exited the car and the guy comes up to me and introduces himself - it was none other than Alan Wilson, SC AG. Lives somewhat near me in this precinct.
We chatted about various things, the part that was most memorable to me was his response to a remark I made on voting practices which include showing photo ID. He was adamant this would never change in SC if he had anything to do with it. Solid conservative in person as well as in public!
FYI, his stepdad is the “You Lie” Joe Wilson SC congress critter from the oobomma SOTU speech (Alan’s real dad died in service in Viet Nam, according to the net).
We need more in public service like this family.
SPOT ON.

So, anyone living within a quarter mile of any kind of school either has to move or get rid of their guns. I wonder if a private day-care center is included in the definition of private school.
Given the number of schools in nearly all medium to large cities, that would outlaw most guns.
What?!? Gun-free zones around schools lead to MORE violence?!? That has to be some kind of far-right conspiracy theory!!! /s
“So, anyone living within a quarter mile of any kind of school either has to move or get rid of their guns.”
I thought that provision was ruled unconstitutional, as it would pretty much ban all firearms in any town or city in the country.
Why does Scooby remind me of a K9 Kramer in that pic? d;^)
Constitution? Wee don’ need no steenkin’ constitution...

We really need a South Carolina State 2nd Amendment organization similar to Virginia’s Virginia Citizen Defense League - https://www.vcdl.org/
