In all fairness, the bath houses weren’t shut down because likely the city officials were customers...

Check this out. Read it and you can see why the Chinese are panicking. This is not your average flu.

THE LANCET - Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study, January 30, 2020

Death rate was 2% for the Spanish flu of 1918, which killed 20-40 million worldwide.

Difference is, R0 (the number of new people each person can infect) was 1.8 for Spanish flu.

Estimates for this virus are between 2.5-3.8.

It has already been shown that one can pass on the virus through casual contact (a doctor in China, who had not been in Wuhan, caught it by sitting next to a doctor who had been in Wuhan, at a conference).

It is already established that one can pass on the virus while having no symptoms.

It is already established that one can suffer massive damage without symptoms (a 10-year-old in China, with an infected family, who himself had no symptoms, including no fever. On X-ray his lungs had a "ground glass" appearance characteristic of this virus).

You might note that Hong Kong has sealed the border with China; that Taiwan put ankle bracelets on an entire flight inbound from China, with mandatory quarantine if they leave their homes, and they fined one guy on the flight $10,000 for lying about his medical condition.

The local authorities in the US are instituting contact tracing for those testing positive to screening tests, when coming from China.

And there has been third-person transmission to a child in Germany.

The CDC is also hush hush, what of the US patients? Are they barely sick, pretty sick, ICU sick? Nothing, not a peep

The Hong Kong crisis, economic dislocations, other internal stresses, now the mishandling of coronavirus outbreak China’s cultural consciousness might conclude the government has lost the “mandate of heaven”! Historically when that notion is widespread Chinese governments collapse & face revolution.

It could get interesting!

Good article, I think I have already read most of the content before somewhere or heard it on news.

The significant statement in the article is:

The 2019-nCoV infection was of clustering onset, is more likely to affect older males with comorbidities

Not worried, I am only age 79 and work out at the gym 4 times every week and run 20 minutes/mile on the treadmill set 3 degrees up..

Imagine the budget of the WHO, 2 years from now, if this turns into a repeat of the 1918 flu...

Not my Gym in the club house of my subdivision. This is Florida, the house prices start at $300k, and it is mostly older folks living here. And the Gym is mostly empty! In January a few people show up (I am guessing New Year’s resolutions) and by mid February they all lose interest.

Exercise at my age of nearing 80 is keeping my butt out of the doctor’s office. I have more energy now than I had at age 55 when I retired.

Good for you! We don’t have one that’s worth going to near me. I have an exercycle in my living room and a ginormous garden. Getting active regular exercise is a mental boost for me too.

Just for kicks, take some wipes and wipe down the equipment before you use it.

Some people are just nasty...ie, stick hand in pants to scratch crotch, place hand back on exercycle handlebars kind of nasty.

” ... hiding a higher death toll by cremating bodies ...”

That’s what they did in the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre to hide the true death toll ... get bulldozes and other tracked vehicles to run over the bodies, push pulp into piles, set on fire, fire hose the burned debris down the sewer ... see all gone.

You are so right, there is a dispenser in the Gym with wet wipes (assuming they have some anti-bacterial properties) which I always use to wipe off the handles and knobs.

Good for you that you are keeping active as possible. Human body will go down fast without lots of activity, once you have gone past 50.
