Ummm, don't we already have all that now already? The Supreme Court already ruled in favor of gay marriage. And Roe v Wade made abortion legal.
You are in dream land if you think that will ever be reversed. 2/3rds of the country supports gay marriage now. I'm sorry but when it comes to gay marriage...conservatives lost the moment the institution of marriage was removed from the church and placed in the hands of the state.
Too late dems.
And 5 states rescinded their ratification; so still don’t have enough. Just an election ploy to get their women fired up. Not only are the dems losing blacks and hispanics, but a chunk of their women base is very apathetic towards voting for any of their candidates.
These are timeless or should be. Otherwise, why should they be constitutional amendments? ERA in principal is what I’d like to think most of us agree with—it is pretty expected that we should and do treat men and women equally. A big difference ERA would require is registering for the draft, which I’ve always said that if men do, then women should to. If they are to be full, equal citizens, they should step up.
The problem is that the ERA is not about GIVING women equal rights.
It is about taking away the rights of MEN, especially if the men are white and Christian.
I think that’s the problem, they lacked 3 or 4 states ratification, so they are trying another avenue that can’t work. If I remember correctly 75% of the states have to ratify an amendment.
Yesterday the House of Reps. approved removing the deadline on the ERA. The question is whether the Senate and the President are willing to anger women in an election year. From your comment it appears the Supreme Court is likely to duck this.
