Russia is to close its border with China as a measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to the countrys state media.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said Thursday morning that he had signed an instruction to close the state border in the Far East, Russian news agency TASS reported.
A corresponding instruction was signed today. Work on it is already in progress. We will inform all those concerned properly about the measures to close the border in the Far Eastern region and other steps the government has taken (to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Russia) the news agency quoted him as telling a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Sixteen out of the 25 crossings along the Russian-Chinese border will be closed as of midnight January 31, the decree said, according to the Moscow Times. Russias Foreign Ministry said Thursday that it had temporarily suspended the issuing of electronic visas to Chinese nationals.

I want to know what happened to those Chinese villages that put up fences and made spears to kill anyone trying to get in.
I wonder if anyone’s been speared yet?

Might be a tough story for a foreign reporter to cover and might be politically dangerous for a Chinese reporter to cover.
So at this point... it’s covered up.
“When ya gonna get to me, get to me.
Is it just a matter of time, Corona?”
As was stated, Russia and China share a long border.
That’s why many Russians have a slightly Asian look.
You get all kinds of mixed features. Blue eyed, auburn haired Chinese. I used to see them in the National Geographic Mags.
Who knows how many dialects have been created and are still being used in that area? Quite interesting from an anthropologic perspective.
Viva la diversity! Except for those potentially deadly viruses.
That's better than Beer Flu...
Did you read that one?
Well I got carried away with the fences.
They put up roadblock but they ARE carrying spears and they aim to use them in necessary.
or they wouldn’t have made them
I believe they’ll use them. I’ve been to many Chinese villages (Sichuan) and though I don’t have friends in any of them, I’m well enough acquainted with their life style to agree that they will use them. They are a tough group, emasculated by anti-gun laws (of course) but otherwise tough. And very tough-minded.
I feel bad for both sides. It’s not like cruel Invaders are coming. But they have an illness that without antibiotics can definitely kill people. We won’t see the same death levels here because I’m sure china doesn’t have enough antibiotics on hand to treat everybody.
And the vast majority of deaths, those people had pneumonia.
Having had pneumonia twice, it was the only experience I had where I thought I could die from a condition I had without help. Of course I always wait until the last minute
Changing the subject somewhat...
I just read Poe’s story The Masque of the Red Death. Very allegorical and not at all realistic, but still interesting, in a kind of old-fashioned way.
But it’s “message” (if it can be said to have one of those) is timeless:
You can’t run; you can’t hide.
Having said that, I do have a lot of faith in our level of technology.
In Brains Vs. Beast... I choose to bet on Brains.
Interesting Times.
I saw a video of two guys hitting a woman on a bicycle with a broom. Telling her to turn around and go away.
WOW
Agreed.
But in the end you can run but you can’t hide applies to all of us.
From UNFORGIVEN
“I guess he had it coming”
“We all got it coming, kid”
It’s like a reverse quarantine. And while I felt sorry for the woman, you can’t really blame the town.
Better close your airspace, if it’s not to late.
No I don’t blame them at all.
They can do NOTHING for her.
And she can KILL them.
It must be a nightmare over there.
It’s the pneumonia without enough antibiotics. or maybe there’s NO antibiotics in some areas.
I said before the only illness I ever had that I thought there would be a chance of dying without treatment was pneumonia.
Sometimes I would wonder after the first 2 days of antibiotics “is this gonna get better?”
And then of course it did.
Healthy or not, old or young, pneumonia can kill you, especially in the weakened state from the virus.
The don’t have antibiotics, i’m betting or steroids and obviously the VAST majority aren’t hooked up to fluid IVs.
Just bad
:)
I made myself depressed now lol
Closing the door after the horses are out.
This virus has a 1-14 day period when it is asymptomatic but contagious. That means it has spread wide and far.
Mortality rate is now reported at about 10%.
This could get ugly.
