Six thousand people on board a cruise ship in Italy have been barred from disembarking, after a Chinese passenger developed symptoms of coronavirus.

The 54-year-old and her travelling companion are being held in isolation on the ship while tests are carried out.

The Costa Smeralda cruise ship has docked in the port of Civitavecchia, north of Rome.

The woman who is receiving treatment had reportedly flown from Hong Kong to join the cruise, and broke out in a fever while on board.

The ship has taken on medical experts from Rome's Spallanzani hospital, which specialises in infectious diseases.

Initial tests have come back negative, according to Italian news agency Ansa.

That is why I figured it would be best to give him a week or maybe two before I tried to get him to come over. We have worked together on a lot of tree cutting projects, and I feel most comfortable with him, although I have another guy who would like to give me a hand.

That’s right. All things considered, I don’t see the appeal.

It takes 6 hours to do the confirmatory test at CDC. They can do ONE at a time. That omits time to collect and deliver the same to the test bench.

During his absense I added a self leveling bed sensor and upgraded the firmware on his large format 3D printer. He is probably going to want to pick that up shortly after he gets back. But I will mention to him that I currently have a cough and that if he picks it up from me, it might cause some headaches for him since he just got back from a place where everyone who is coughing is suspected of having a serious illness.

I have a friend who has been promoting “colloidal silver” for years. He appears to be the most unhealthy person that I know who is still walking around. The guy always appears to be on death's door. Before he started with the silver “treatments” he was quirky but seemed healthy. Jeff is that you?

Just remember that the test is worthless before symptoms present.

Just remember that the test is worthless before symptoms present.

It's a PCR based test with genome sequencing. You would have to successfully recover the virus particles to sequence them. It's the PCR replication that takes time before the sequencing can begin.

I remember that, some years ago, a cruise ship suffered a stabilizer failure, resulting in enough rolling to cause the toilets to explosively backflow into the cabins. Much vomiting and illness among the passengers. The same ship also ran aground within a few months of this incident, but I can’t remember its name.

that’s going to mess up the cruise schedule. But the passengers may get a 14-day all inclusive out of it
