Yeah, Baiju is nasty stuff. But, it's the trends that matter. If a 40% per day increase in infections doesn't taper off, in a few weeks, drunk driving deaths will be the least of their, and our, concerns.

Well it might take 2 days to die but 10 days to recover ... or some other not equal length of time. In other words, if it took 30 days to recover, then your calc would suggest a 100% death rate because no one would have recovered yet.

Frankly I'm just doing calculations that right or wrong are probably based on BS numbers from China and BS assumptions on my part ... I would ignore me :-) ... sometimes thinking out loud is like littering.

I wouldn’t believe anything that the government of China told us. I don’t think that even the people in China believe their government. They’re just forced to ostensibly pretend to believe.

Their actions, as shown in reports and videos that have gotten out, prove otherwise.

Stop looking at what is being said, and look at what is being done.

I was around for SARS. There was no massive quarantine, no evac of world personal from China, no closing of the stock market.

Words to the press were the same. Look on FR for perspective. But the reaction right now is that the PRC is scared out of their ever loving mind. Their actions have destroyed their economy. This is a place were a dead body on the street doesn’t raise much comment.

Sad thing is there is little we can do about it. The bug is in the wild in NA, and I am at least suspecting the CDC knows that. Not scared yet, but when you see a lot of senators suddenly going on vacation to sunny New Zealand, then get ready for some serious stuff.

In 2018-19 USA, it is estimated that 2.5% who got the flu went to the hospital. Of those hospitalized, 10% of them died (around 90,000 dead). That was a pretty bad year - about double I think on average.

With this virus, if you put 25% into the hospital (except they won’t all fit!), then the dead would perhaps be more like 900,000. Total deaths in the USA last year was 2.8 million.

This whole thing is so overblown.
SARS hurt China badly for years economically, plus they lost face. Now it comes again (very similar). Beijing feels they can not be a superpower (in the World's eyes) if they can't seem to control this. They will shut down the country to snuff it out quickly, which will allow quicker recovery economically and show their ability to control it.
Their economy already has been slowing there, partly due to tariffs, and they don't want it to get worse....

They have been flying here since for two weeks in commercial and charter flights .
We have well over 200 direct commercial flights a day to 20 plus US airports to a country of a more than a billion .
How many charter flights do u think would be coming here now ?
How many come indirect thru Mexico or Canada or S America ?
At 350 plus per plane you do the math .

It means that many of the infected are still hanging on barely in serious or critical condition. And we see that in those numbers.

That is just the ratio of dead to “recovered”, not NEARLY the mortality rate. Good God.

Yours is like the false “divorce RATE” which it is NOT - “50% marriages end in divorce”. No, for every 2 marriages there is another divorce, meaning out of so many “couples” 1/3 ARE divorced (not TO BE divorced).
