“and families at $35,000 a year that have five.”

You cannot raise 5 kids on $35k per year. Impossible.

That is below family poverty levels.

My wife and I are in our late 50’s. We have zero debt.

Our annual fixed cost is almost 50k per year. Health, car, home insurance, property taxes, utilities, maintence on and on.

Our health insurance is $1900 per month alone= $22,800 per year.

I know families with nine children and they don’t make more than $70,000 a year. In fact, I knew a family 8 years ago where the total salary was $55,000 a year and they had 8 kids already and one on the way. It’s amazing what you can do in certain parts of the country.

Hon, it happens, and it depends largely on where you live, whether your kids are going to pay for their own education, and whether you live high on the hog or low on the hamburger.

Post-secondary education costs are going to vary. Our firstborn got his degree in Law Enforcement and graduated debt-free, is now a USMC Captain and pilots a Harrier jump-jet.

The cost of health insurance depends on a number of variables, including state - county - age - previous health history, but according to ehealthinsurance.com,

How Much Does Health Insurance Cost Without a Subsidy?

"The following data reflects health insurance costs and shopping trends from the 2018 Open Enrollment Period, which ran from November 1 to December 15, 2017. Average premiums and deductibles nationwide for unsubsidized shoppers: Premiums for individual coverage averaged $440 per month while premiums for family plans averaged $1,168 per month."

The family with $35,000 income and 5 kids -- that would be the gal who's heading up the Tri Cities 40 Days for Life campaign this Spring.

Happy, healthy family --- all that, and taking her share of civic responsibilities as well.

I don't know, but it could be some wouldn't like their clothes or their car.
