The chief executive of Novartis believes it will take at least 12 months to find a new vaccine to treat the coronavirus, with the fast-spreading nature of the outbreak a threat that must be taken really seriously.
Chinas National Health Commission confirmed Wednesday that the coronavirus had infected 5,974 people, with 132 deaths and 103 cured.
The virus, which was first discovered in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has spread to other major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Macao and Hong Kong.
The number of coronavirus cases in China has already surpassed that of severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, with market participants increasingly concerned about the severity of its economic impact.
The reality is, it will take over a year in my expectation to really find a new vaccine for this so, we need to really use epidemiological controls to really get this situation in a better place, Vas Narasimhan, CEO of Novartis, told CNBCs Julianna Tatelbaum in Basel, Switzerland on Wednesday.
Multiple cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, France and the United States.
A team of scientists in Australia said Wednesday that they had successfully developed a lab-grown version of coronavirus, according to a Reuters report.
The breakthrough, which was thought to be the first grown outside of China, could help researchers as they work to combat the international spread of the outbreak.

We’re all gonna die.
RNA viruses are notoriously hard to develop a vaccine for
Even if we have one (coronavirus vaccine) right now and plenty of doses to distribute, it won’t matter.
The fear is the speed of virus mutation, esp. jumping from person to person. Depending on how the vaccine is being developed, I wonder how effective it would be.
Or maybe the lethality and infectiveness of the virus won’t be as high as the fearmongers feared, and nature will take care of the current coronavirus strain, like previously SARS or MERS.

For perspective, there are 5 KNOWN cases of this latest coronavirus strain that we have discovered in the USA.
In 2017-2018, 80,000 people died of the flu in the USA !!
See here:
Tell them it only effects gay men. We’ll have the vaccine and cure within a week.
Hell, if they have it ready in less than that, I wouldn’t touch it.
CDC says they will be field testing a vaccine by April or sooner.
............
Yes, this virus mutates very quickly because it is an RNA based virus like smallpox.
............
That is also its weakness, it breaks apart easily and is quickly killed by a healthy immune system.
............
It is also one of the physically largest viruses they have ever seen. That means it doesn’t fly very well. It’s very fragile and when it hits an inert surface it quickly dies.
...............
Masks, sanitizer, Lysol, etc. and social isolation should really slow it down.
Per NIH...
“They indicate that a candidate vaccine for 2019-nCoV could be ready for early-stage human testing in as little as three months as compared to 20 months for early-stage development of an investigational SARS vaccine.”
Link for above reply.
There is no vaccine for the common cold after 2 million years of human existence.
Let’s dig up Dr. Timothy Cunningham and ask him about CDC vaccines.
They have had a vaccine for a while-just waiting for enough sheeple to die first so they can mandate the “cure” and make billions. Why do you think Gates copyrighted this virus a few years ago?
