Democrats in Virginia arent wasting time with their first statehouse majority in 26 yearsby repealing the states 70-year-old right-to-work law that has helped the commonwealth thrive.
Twenty-seven states including Virginia have right-to-work laws that give workers a choice of whether to belong to a union. According to the National Institute for Labor Relations Research, the rate of job growth was two times higher in right-to-work states between 2008 and 2018 than in states where workers can be compelled to join unions or pay dues as a condition of employment.
This disparity is the result of a confluence of pro-growth policies including low taxes, but employers often cite right-to-work laws when deciding where to locate a new plant. Foreign automakers built factories in southern states largely because their right-to-work laws make it more difficult to conscript workers into unions.
Right to work has also made Northern Virginia more attractive to businesses compared to Marylands Washington, D.C., suburbs. Northern Virginia last year accounted for 70% of new jobs in the D.C. metro area. Only 4% of Virginia workers belong to unions compared to 11.3% in Maryland. The share of construction workers who are unionized is five times higher in Maryland than Virginia.
Progressives elected in last years statehouse sweep now hope to reward their labor supporters. Senate Majority Leader Richard Saslaw is driving legislation that would allow unions to require non-members to pay fair share fees to defray their costs for collective bargaining, organization and other representation activities.
The Supreme Courts Janus decision (2018) forbids governments from requiring public workers to pay such union fees but said nothing about private workers. Under the Virginia bill, workers could be required to subsidize unions regardless of whether they join. This would repeal right-to-work in all but name.

And this is how it goes. Rolling Stone was talking about how Tulsa might be the next Austin. I hate Austin.
Utterly predictable.
Unions have been funneling cash into losing Democrat campaigns for decades. And now that they’ve emerged on top they expect to be repaid.
Is Roe Vs Wade the only “law of the land” at this point?
I believe Bloomberg brags about his part in flipping Virginia. What a tragedy.
Tar and feathers
Carried out on a rail
Dumped in the local cesspool
...would be just about right to do with these DNC Left wingers....
‘Utterly predictable.’
Right-It was just a matter of time. Maybe it’s at the bottom of everything that’s been going on
The Supreme Court is going to be busy over the next couple years ruling on laws passed in Virginia. We need one more conservative on the court...NOW!!
Virginia is going to be like California and New York in the next year. People will be leaving this state soon also.
Trump and the RNC and every Republican candidate for House/Senate in 2020 should use Virginia in their campaign ads:
This is what Democrats do when they take over.
This is what Democrats do.
I think after witnessing this trial, Justice Roberts is going to be far less likely to swing. We need two more very young Justices and I think PDJT will appoint them
I went to Austin last summer. It is a s**thole of liberalism. Not impressed.
Just in time to miss out on all the companies building new factories in right-to-work states. One less state for my right-to-work state to have to compete with. In a few years RTW states will be thriving where the others will look like Detroit.
They're doing everything wrong and the bacteria is spreading.
Who was it who said, “Elections have consequences”? Doesn’t really matter, but it’s true.
California, coming to your state soon...
Cal already leads in crazy
Of course Trump was elected and made quick changes for US like VA governor is making in Virginia.
I just don’t think the majority of Virginians like what the governor is doing. I guess the only way of knowing is next gubernatorial election

November 2020.
Republicans win big in the US House elections. That would be a way of b*tch-slapping the dems for wrecking a whole state.
Elections have consequences.
November is coming, Virginia.
Make it count.
