Number of Wuhan coronavirus cases inside mainland China overtakes SARS, as virus spreads worldwide

Hong Kong (CNN)The number of confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus has overtaken the 2003 SARS outbreak inside of mainland China, as multiple countries evacuated their citizens from the city at the heart of the outbreak.

As of Wednesday, there were 5,974 confirmed cases of the virus in mainland China, including 132 deaths, according to China's National Health Commission (NHC). The number of cases grew by almost 1,500 from Tuesday, a more than 30% increase. The figures do not include Hong Kong and Macau, both of which have reported a small number of cases.

There have been more than 80 cases of the virus reported outside mainland China, bringing the worldwide total to over 6,000.

Have read other places that there are more than 6,100 cases confirmed now.

Others report 200 US citizens have been evacuated by charter aircraft.

There is a complete blackout of information coming out of China concerning the virus. 6 days ago there were about 4 privately recorded videos released. Since then there has been nothing. 50 million people are quarantined and there are no videos of what is happening. It’s not because things are under control.

I read a Chinese source on Twitter saying 50+ dead (real number reported is 132) and 40 treated and released.

Hard to be accurate, but 50/90 is high mortality rate.

I’m interested to hear about the cases in the USA and Canada where hopefully the hospitals will be more honest. The two cases I have read about the patients are stable. Of course not a huge sample to base anything on! (And hopefully it stays that way - but I doubt it.)

The one case in Washington the guy is in a secure, two-bed, negative pressure room away from everyone else. Guards. A robot to monitor his vitals. Only four people have ever been in the room with him.

I’m not sure what happens if three people get it.

the US folks refueled in Alaska and now headed to Riverside Co, CA - (decommissioned) March AFB instead of Ontario airport. On the tarmack in Alaska, all ok so far. Will arrive March AFB approx. 9:30am pacific time.

About 200 less cases reported yesterday than Monday. (1400ish versus 1700ish). It is now approx. 6 weeks since the meat market was closed/disinfected.
