West Virginia's Republican governor urged counties in Virginia that are unhappy with their state's Democratic majority to secede and join his state.

Gov. Jim Justice proposed the long-shot bid during a news conference Tuesday with Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr.

“If you’re not happy where you’re at, come on down,” Justice said. “If you’re not truly happy where you are, we stand with open arms to take you from Virginia or anywhere you may be. We stand strongly behind the Second Amendment, and we stand strongly for the unborn.”

I hope there is a groundswell of that. It would be interesting Northam’s response.

Perhaps they can be annexed?

I love it This kind of outside-the-box thinking is the original American spirit. The idea that the status quo is somehow this sacrosanct thing, and you can never re-shuffle the deck on the political order is exactly what the Founding Fathers were rebelling against. If you stop and think about it, can you think of any good reasons why rural VA counties that are more aligned with the politics of W. VA shouldn’t be allowed to switch to that state? Any good reason other than maps would have to be redrawn?

I’m absolutely for that. However, the eastern geographic location of Gloucester County makes that somewhat untenable.

A realignment is needed in many parts of the country. Washington state is permanently Dem; would be nice if the sane counties could join Idaho and get away from the leftists who seek to control/ruin their lives.

No it would need the consent of the WV and VA legislatures as well as the Congress.

Not if every country between you and West Virginia goes, too. I’m in York and I am prating Falwell succeeds. we can create one Virginia and leave Coonman with the Southern District of DC.

I’m sure “Eastern California” would be happier than they are now.

Good point.

I was referring to Article IV, Section 3:

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

The Red River Compact was approved by the TX and OK legislatures as well as the Congress for instance.

When West Virginia left none of that was done, I’m pretty sure.

Except for Fredrick County. That permission was already given during the Civil War when West Virginia was formed out of Virginia. At the time both the government of West Virginia and the unionist government of Virginia were seated in Wheeling. Berkley, Jefferson, and Fredrick Counties of. Virginia were invited to join West Virginia by both governments upon.a
local vote. The vote never occurred in Fredrick due to it bring held many times by the Confederates during the war.

The Supreme Court upheld the transfer of Berkley and Jefferson in 1872 but did not have to address Fredrick as they never voted. A case can be made this is still Constitutionally valid for Fredrick also.

That being said, Fredrick County does not want to join its country bumpkin cousins in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Winchester has always been the key city in the area. To wit, in the day families would fort up at Ft. Fredrick (Winchester) when threatened by Indians. Settlers would cross the mountain at least once a year to get supplies there. Nothing has changed. To get to Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, doctors, etc. we cross the mountain to Winchester several times a month.

Succession isn’t going to happen. That is a form of denial to what is really happening which is extermination. Virginia’s extermination of core American cultural and Constitutional values will continue to proceed (as it is in all states to varying degrees). You cannot change the committed regressive, racist fascists minds by any argument, policy, gun rally or pretend succession. At root, conservatives don’t have the will to exterminate. The left does.

One barrel of tar and one bag of feathers would be much less costly than going through all that. At some point leftists have to be held responsible. It may be time to do things the old way.

“West Virginia governor: Virginia counties unhappy with liberal government should just secede”

Cute idea, but NO THANKS, for the following reasons:

1) Shifting borders is far more likely to work against conservatives, than for conservatives...since it only takes a handful of the right people to flip many of our states.

2) The latest polling in Virginia shows that the state is clearly in play for 2020. I guess now that conservative Virginians understand that, despite the Democrats trolling them (and telling them) that there’s ‘no difference between the parties’, they realize that, yes, there is a difference, A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Trump doesn’t need their help in W. Virginia, he needs their help in Virginia itself...and the timing is PERFECT for that state, since this November is the first chance for the conservatives there to RESPOND to the monsters they enabled to take office.

So, for Virginians, stay put this year, vote for Trump, and with 4 more years of Trump and his judges, you’ll get your Second Amendment back...and that is your best hope.

My 401k is fixed-income, so I’m good there. But I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing Trump re-elected, regardless of whether the rest of the Republican Party remains dicks.
