The headlines going around this evening, all to the effect that “McConnell doesn’t have the votes!”, are misleading when you read down into the stories themselves. Republicans sound much calmer and more resolute about ramming through an acquittal verdict without witnesses than they did 24 hours ago, in the first flush of the NYT’s story on Sunday night about Bolton’s book. McConnell doesn’t have the votes yet but as of Tuesday night Collins and Romney remain the only two Republicans willing to say it’s highly likely they’ll vote to call witnesses. Murkowski is interested in hearing from Bolton but won’t go any further than that now. And no one thinks Lamar Alexander’s going to blow up his buddy Mitch’s plans for a quick ending to the trial.

How is Mitt being bought off?

Feels like a game of chicken. The Dems really don’t want witnesses but want to accuse the GOP of blocking them. Dems have a lot more exposure than Trump.
Mitch is more experienced than Pierre delecto. He will get it. Remember he threatened collins on the last day to get the vote on gorsuch.
Lindsey Graham on Fox earlier this evening saying he’s confident it’ll be squared away by Friday.
Hope he’s right.

Dems want witnesses. They want a circus and drama. Witnesses bring drama. Drama brings viewers in blue states like Maine and Colorado.

Baffled that anyone thinks Mittens needs to be “bought off.”
He’s a sore loser and sour puss who hates President Trump.
That’s not a financial transaction. That’s McCain II.

You know what folks, I don’t care how ugly it gets between now and Friday, I just want his over.
If Mitch plays some mind games over the next few days and comes up with the acquittal, I for one will be very thankful.
Lets get this done before the Super Bowl.... Senate.
If it were one of our true conservative senators, there would be no buy-off. Mitch would simply say, Give me your vote or you are out next election. When McConnell wants you to lose an election, you lose. He's done it at will with of our preferred senate candidates.
With Mittens on the other hand, I'm sure he'll get anything he asks for if McConnell really needs his vote.
And still no mention of Senate Dems running for President recusing themselves.
Maybe.
Screw the Super Bowl. I’d like to see Trump acquitted before the State of the Union.
