The University of Missouri is expanding its Big Brother-like phone-tracking program Tuesday: Now, all new students on campus will be required to use an app that surveils their movements, the Kansas City Star reports.
The app, called SpotterEDU, was developed by former Mizzou basketball coach Rick Carter and uses the campus Wi-Fi networks and short-range phone sensors to ensure students dont cut class. Previously, the app was only required for freshman athletes and jocks who were struggling academically.

I would tell them to get bent. It’s a school, not a prison.
If I’m on a scholarship...maybe.
If I’m paying my own way, I’m not sure that the Professor taking attendance is even fully reasonable.
Melissa Click is now teaching at Seattle University.
Prison or campus?
Will snowflakes who grew up in the smartphone era feel safer knowing that they are being constantly monitored?
They call her "Pointing Click".
I thought she was at a Catholic school out that way, Gonzaga maybe?
Seattle University is a Jesuit college.
Now if there WAS anything students should en masse protest about their schools, THIS IS IT.
Concentration Camp. Can’t let them miss any of their indoctrination sessions!
No, not maybe. No.
If they lose the scholarship because their grades go down, that’s what happens. Kids on scholarship knowmwhat requirements they have to maintain to keep a scholarship.
This isnt an issue that requires big brother 24/7 monitoring on campus. seriously dude.
A bunch of students ought to sign up for the app, then leave their phones at home when they go to class. I don’t know if you could find any willing to be separated from their phones, though, even for the duration of a single lecture.
Before my husband died, we went to Houston. We got together with a couple of State friends. He and my husband were talking about our college days. GC told us about a professor he and hubby had. He said the prof was going down the roll, telling the grades of each student and how many classes each had missed. When he got to hubbys, he told his grade and how many classes he had missed and added this little bit of info. He said it did not matter because he had the highest grade in the class. My husband never studied but made excellent grades. He majored in physics. We miss him.
That’s crap. I occasionally skipped classes, due to both heavy class loads and heavy job hours. But I always had my “study pals” who promised to give each other class notes if they missed. I graduated with a 3.5 FWIW. By the time you hit college nobody should be “holding your hand”. Either you want to do it or you don’t. Quit invading their privacy and treat them like adults.

They are being prepared for a brave new world.
College students are adults. If they don’t want to attend classes, the consequences are on them.
Mizzou is one backward place, will avoid.
