We finally got a taste Sunday night of what former national security adviser John Bolton might tell President Donald Trump's Senate impeachment trial -- if he's called to testify, that is.
What we learned reinforced the potential peril for Republicans if they refuse to let him do so.
The New York Times reported Sunday that Bolton makes a series of very big Ukraine-related claims in an unpublished manuscript of his upcoming book, which is now slated to be released in March.
(snip) -- Bolton is naming names - lots of names - and directly contradicting what top administration officials are saying.
(snip) -- The nightmare scenario for the GOP is that they give Trump the quick and witness-free acquittal that he apparently desires, but then information like Bolton's keeps coming out.
(snip) -- Bolton's upcoming book - which is now slated for March 17 - is a great example of how the hastily assembled walls the Trump team have built around its defense can quickly crumble and in some cases already have.

No one has seen the manuscript! Only in Washington do people give rumors a credibility they don’t deserve.
The media will make another move soon. If it looks like the Bolton ‘revelation’ won’t move enough Senators to call for witnesses, the media will launch another of it’s missiles to apply more pressure. It will be soon, within a day or two, it depends on if they can get more than Romney and Susan Collins on their side.
They have no shortage of bombshells. Expect more to break by Friday.
A swift acquittal of Trump is their worst nightmare.

Also, we’re guaranteed to see another ‘bombshell’ this weekend, because of POTUS interview with Hannity before the Super Bowl. They need another ‘bomb’ to make Trump look foolish, and also to try and influence the questions to the President.
I think the media has a pile of October surprises they’ve been building up, and will let some loose as needed.

Then Dershowitz turned to the media’s obsession for the day — the accusation in a New York Times article on Sunday evening that alleged that former National Security Advisor John Bolton had written a draft book in which he said Trump wanted to condition aid to Ukraine on it conducting investigations into “Democrats.”
Even if, for argument’s sake, everything in the Times article were true, Trump could not be impeached. A mere “quid pro quo,” Dershowitz said, required criminal-like conduct. You could not, Dershowitz said, turn “conduct that is not impeachable into impeachable conduct simply by using words like ‘quid pro quo’.”
He added that it could not be “obstruction of Congress” merely to invoke Constitutional powers available to the president. The problem, ultimately, with “words like ‘abuse of power’ and ‘obstruction of Congress’” is that they are “standard-less,” substituting subjective political and partisan criteria for clear principles.”
We’ve been seeing bombshells for three years - all duds. If they really had anything, it would have already been released. I’m more worried about what the Dems will do when they realize it’s not working. Pray for our President.
This illegitimate, unconstitutional farce of an “impeachment” should have been rejected and dismissed by the Senate on day one.

Bolton is worse than a whore and he is symptomatic of Trump’s weak spot: personnel hiring. Everyone knew what Bolton was, and is - a louse of a neocon anxious to send other’s sons and daughters into endless combat for an ever changing goal. Bolton himself, however, was a proud draft dodger during the Vietnam War; he is super brave with others’ lives. And then he gets the job of utmost discretion, turns on the President, opens his damned mouth about every confidential conversation, all for fame and filthy money. He reminds me of Mark Felt, the Asst. FBI Director, who when he was passed over for Director by Nixon, became Deep Throat, whose perfidy caused the fall of Nixon and with it South Vietnam. Solely self-interested, no morality or ethics, a first class, low class bum, just like Bolton.
