An American evangelical leader who advises US President Donald Trump on Israel announced that he will present an award to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Mike Evans, one of Trump’s informal group of evangelical advisers, said Wednesday that he would award his “Friends of Zion” award to Putin to honor the role of the Soviet Union in saving Jews during World War II. Evans was visiting Israel this week for the World Holocaust Forum.
“We want to give him the award for the following reasons. Number one, the Soviet Union liberated Auschwitz. Number two, 8,660,000 Soviet soldiers died fighting the Nazis,” Evans told the Times of Israel. “Number three, if the Soviet Union had not fought the Nazis, then Hitler would probably have taken over all of Europe, which would have meant the deaths of another three million Jews.”
This is insane. The USSR was an atheistic, tyrannical, mass-murdering regime. No Christian should ever praise them.
However, there are a few Jewish families who may have a different opinion. Sometimes, the Soviets did good. Auschwitz would be a Good Thing.
Well actually the USSR isn’t Russia today....and the award is being given to Putin for his meetings with Israel leaders. I’m not exactly fond of the idea but this is what is done for leaders who step up to the plate......regardless of their motives which could be otherwise.

Excellent point. The official reasons for giving out the award are all weak. For example, yes the Soviets liberated Auschwitz. But they hardly could have avoided doing so. The camp was between the Red Army and Germany.
I say give out the award anyway. Anything that might bring Russia into a closer friendship with Israel is a good thing.
Evans is correct.....Russia played a huge decisive role and it’s rare that’s remembered, except in Russia, let alone honored on the World Stage.
No nation lost as many soldiers fighting as Russia did in the war.....for that reason alone this is a good thing.
A big reason they lost so many that everybody conveniently forgets is that the Soviets were extraordinarily terrible leaders. They almost pulled off a near ‘miracle’ allowing Hitler to win the war. Its no honor for the Reds that they managed to get so many of their men killed.

The Soviet Union was an ally of Hitler until Germany invaded. That is when Stalin started calling his Socialist friend Fascist instead. Lots of Jews suffered under Stalin. He was nobodies friend but the Devil’s.

My next door neighbors are Russian Jews who were finally able to leave Russia after Mikhail Gorbachev relaxed the anti-semitic oppression. Marat was a slipstick engineer calculating rotor vibrations at a helicopter design bureau. They are proud Americans now. The Russians were not friends of Jewish people.

My recollection of Hitler and stalin working together is different, albeit not a deep history. Halfway through the Big BlackBook of Communism.
How many Soviet citizens died fighting the Soviet Union? The Nazis called them subhuman yet they were willing to fight against Stalin. That should be an indication of their desperation. The Reds liberated concentration camps only to fill their own with new inmates.
