U.S. health officials are currently monitoring 110 people across 26 states for the coronavirus, including the five patients who contracted the deadly infection in China and brought it back to America.
The disease, which has killed at least 81 people in China and sickened more than 2,800 worldwide, isnt spreading within the community in the U.S. and the risk to the public right now is still considered low, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters on a conference call Monday.
We understand that many people in the United States are worried about this virus and how it will affect Americans, Messonnier said. Every day we learn more, every day we assess to see if our guidance or our response can be improved.
The number of patients under investigation in the U.S. has almost doubled from the 63 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said were under surveillance on Thursday. The CDC says 32 people have tested negative for the virus.
While that number is 110, we are certainly prioritizing based on [patients under investigation] that might be at higher risk, Messonnier said.
The CDC confirmed Sunday a fifth U.S. case of the virus a patient in Maricopa County, Arizona who recently traveled to Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the diseases outbreak and where the majority of cases have been reported.
Messonnier said the CDC has screened roughly 2,400 people flying from Wuhan to five major U.S. airports and is considering expanding its screening. The agency increased its travel warning for all of China, asking people traveling to practice enhanced precautions.
This outbreak is unfolding rapidly and we are rapidly looking at how that impacts our posture at the border. Were certainly considering broadening of that screening, she said.

When the SARS virus was happening I read some information close to this. I was looking for it again, Thanks!
I’ve been taking about 5,000IU of vitamin D a day for two years now and have NOT gotten the annual bronchitis bug that I usually do.
There is a ship in Humboldt Bay taking on wood chips for China and the longshoremen balked at working on her. Not sure what transpired but it is being loaded...
All we can do it’s basically stay away from people who are coughing sneezing etc. Wash our hands, and use the best personal hygiene you possibly can. I wash my hands religiously and I cannot remember the last time I had a cold. The flu can be devastating there was a guy who lived near me. He was only 26 years old and actually died from the flu last fall. I immediately called my son 24 almost 25, and my daughter 20, almost 21 and said you two better get your flu shots right away. I told them the story about the young man. I hope they did get their shots, I can’t force them, but they did not get the flu. I got the flu the first year I lived here and it was awful awful awful. I couldn’t breathe I had to sleep sitting up, it was a week of pure h*ll. It developed into a bacterial infection in my lungs, and I stopped well, my husband stopped, at a doctor on the way home from his mother’s house, that’s where I got sick, in northern Quebec. I guess I just wasn’t used to the cold. Anyway the doctor gave me antibiotics for the bronchitis and I just had to ride the flu out. But as I said I wash my hands constantly and have not had a cold in years so all we can do is take every precaution and Hope oh, perhaps call the White House our senators or congressmen, and make sure that the people who have it now our quarantine and shut the borders from anyone who is coming back from China put them in immediate quarantine. And don’t let any US citizen or Canadian citizen visit China.
I wonder why these things SARS Ebola etc, always come out of China or Africa. India is equally as crowded, they have cow crap all over the place because the cows roam free is it please since they are holy. and yet nothing weird ever comes out of that country which is equally as crowded if not more than China. I honestly believe it’s because India is such a spiritual place. The Ganges River is filthy and yet people still make spiritual journeys there. I don’t think the Chinese or Africans have that same kind of power. Although I can’t judge their religion. I don’t know. But it is an interesting question. Anyone who wants to see the conditions there, rent the movie Salaam Bombay. It is excellent. I hope I got the spelling right. :-)
And people should consider shutting the border to Canada. I’m serious where my husband grew up is about 17 miles from
Maine. Anyone who knows what they’re doing could easily backpack and camp their way right across the border. It’s full of trees etcetera.
Vancouver is full of Chinese people, people who go back home and return to Canada. They could easily make it to the east,
Yep it was just on the news, right now, a man recently visited relatives in that province, then turned around and came back home to Vancouver. There you go. Mr. President please shut the border with Canada I do care about my adopted country but I’m a native-born American I care more about her. That’s why I never became a Canadian citizen. Even if they allow dual citizenship, I don’t think that means anything. I’ll never feel about Canada the way I do about America. So saying the words would be a hollow exercise.

* Even hunters stateside wear gloves and other protective clothing when dressing game animals to avoid infection by deer ticks and other creepy-crawlies that can inflict a host of maladies that start with Lyme disease and go on from there.
Interesting! Thank you oh, I had not considered that. :-)
Re population density, Africa is the least crowded of the continents. Its poverty, like China's and India's, is the product of leadership incompetence and/or corruption. China's population density is similar to Europe's.
India has a lower population density than Israel, Holland, South Korea and Taiwan. And yet its economic production per capita is 1/10 of those other countries.
I should say Africa is the least crowded of the major highly-populated continents. Australia is lightly-populated, but the interior is mostly desert. The Arctic and Antarctica combined have even fewer inhabitants than Australia.
[Interesting! Thank you oh, I had not considered that. :-)]
First reports, as yet unverified:
#BritishAirways has announced it has suspended all flights to and from mainland #China with immediate effects. #coronaviru

Coronavirus? Does this mean you have to stop drinking Corona Beer? If so, the drunk rate among my area Hispanics will drop to near zero. They don’t buy it by the bottle, but by the carton, wheelbarrow or truckload.
My daughter and her unborn baby would have been killed by a drunk illegal Mexican if they had been in their parked car when he ploughed into it, pushing the engine block through the firewall which drove the steering wheel into the driver’s seat (thus killing my daughter/baby if they had been there).
The guy never showed up for court and probably fled the country.
Food. Chinese and Africans eat a lot of bush meat and pets and so on. Anything they can get their hands in, will go in the pot. Indians are pretty limited in the meats people are willing to eat, and a lot of them are vegetarian - you can get poisoned from plants, but picking up a virus from a plant is highly unlikely. India’s not very clean in food standards, but they don’t really eat monkeys or rats or bats or cats or dogs. Which is where a lot of these issues come from.

Good point! I think you might be right.
The mask is as much to prevent you from inadvertently touching your nose and mouth.
How many times does the average person touch their mouth/face/eyes with their hands in an hour?
THAT is what got my attention.
Stops the Hong Kong protests better than running protestors over with tanks like ‘89.
vitamin D3
Since I began taking it daily 6 years go I haven’t had so much as a cold
