U.S. stock index futures fell sharply Monday morning after more cases of the coronavirus were confirmed over the weekend, ratcheting up worries over the virus impact on the world economy.
Around 7 a.m. ET, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 426 points, indicating a loss of 438 points at the open. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures pointed to losses of more than 1% to start off the session.

Dow is down 469 points, NOT 5,000 or even 1,500.
That site is wildly inaccurate. It’s bouncing all over the place. It just went from -3,500 to -559 in one second, and now in another second went to -9,000. Impossible.
I was looking for confirmation that Nike would fall due to its big stake in China (can’t Colin K save them again?) but all I found was:
Deadly Infection Keeps Chinese Consumers From Spending
https://www.hellenicshippingnews.com/deadly-infection-keeps-chinese-consumers-from-spending/
China was counting on consumers to underpin its already slowing economy. Now, authorities are advising people to stay home, and many residents are too frightened anyway to eat out, shop, see movies or travel as a deadly virus passes person to person.
Anxiety may be spreading faster than the coronavirus that emerged from the central Chinese city of Wuhan in recent weeks. That adds risks to what was already expected to be a very challenging year for the economy in China.
My father’s take (from back in a time of antiquated ideas like market analysis) was that when a declining market goes sideways for a while—like there’s no mania or other outside influence left, and “the market” doesn’t know what to do...THEN it’s bottomed out.
It’s just as likely it was because all doubt that Bolton intends to stab Trump in the back is gone.
Yes. It’s not real, and it’s a joke. Closer to 400 points down. No big deal.

Dow future same thing—around 400 down.

Some crooks want to scare the market down radically during these situations, so they can get into some action. They want to start a panic and buy extremely low. They don’t care if the markets are left in perpetual ruins as a result, because they’re spoiled rotten and like to make messes anyway.
Buy.
And if you havent bought at the absolute bottom....buy some more.
Past results are no guarantee of future performance. I think this is going to be very bad.
YEAH! For realz...BTFD!

If there’s an epidemic here, because we didn’t properly stop travel from china and quarantine those who’ve been there, it will be Trump’s Katrina.
Shutting down global business travel, having a large fraction of factory workers in China not show up for work, and workers in transportation systems getting sick (or dead) will tank the stock market.
The market is factoring all this in.
Everybody in Shanghai is on ‘vacation’ until Feb 9.
2 weeks.
Factories sitting idle.
No shipping done.
Some major ports are closing altogether.
But hey, Kobe.
“Stop that State dept chartered planes from coming here until they are all under a quarantined for 14 days.”
I couldn’t believe I was hearing that we are evacuating American citizens out of the Wuhan area and NOT putting them into quarantine. That is insane.
“RRT. (Rise Resistance Team)”
Guess they aren’t doing a very good job with DJIA flirting with 30k.
21 Things You Didnt Know About Chinese New Year

Note this one:
8. The Spring Festival causes the largest human migration in the world
Isn’t that normal for the Chinese New Year?
I haven’t seen any news reports of a Shanghai “vacation”
1000+ little disease vectors spreading this all around.
Like that journalist who ‘self quarantined’ after she returned from ebolaland by going to a local restaurant...
https://twitter.com/BNODesk/with_replies
Our news is simply not reporting this.
It’s all peach mint and kobe.
Entire provinces have shut down now.
The Spring Festival is technically 15 days. But celebrations start on New Years Eve (making it 16 days).
During the holiday, Chinese people spend twice as much on shopping and eating out than Americans spend on Thanksgiving.
Traditionally, you have to spend time with your family and can only go out after the 5th day. Its a national holiday. The large majority of stores are closed too.
I said on another thread. IF you were evil and IF you wanted to cause a human pandemic...you’d release it in Wuhan (big transportation hub in China) to be in the area around their new years celebrations.
Spread all over china and then the world...
particularly when nobody wants the airlines or hotels or tour industry to lose money. Pandemic would be nothing compared to those industries losing money /s.
