Washington Post journalist has been suspended by the newspaper after she tweeted a link on Sunday to a years-old story about the Kobe Bryant rape case just hours after the basketball legend and his daughter were killed in a helicopter crash.
Felicia Sonmez, who covers national politics for the Post, took to Twitter shortly after the world learned of Bryants death along with eight others aboard his private helicopter which crashed outside of Los Angeles.
She posted a link to an April 2016 story from the news site The Daily Beast which carried the headline: Kobe Bryants Disturbing Rape Case: The DNA Evidence, the Accusers Story, and the Half-Confession.
The tweet generated hundreds of shares and thousands of likes as well as many comments.
Sonmez says she has received death threats after posting the tweets.
In follow-up tweets, Sonmez wrote: Well, THAT was eye-opening.
Bryant was arrested and charged with sexual assault and false imprisonment after a 19-year-old woman alleged he raped her in a local hotel room
To the 10,000 people (literally) who have commented and emailed me with abuse and death threats, please take a moment and read the story - which was written 3+ years ago, and not by me.
Any public figure is worth remembering in their totality even if that public figure is beloved and that totality unsettling.
Sonmez continued: That folks are responding with rage and threats toward me (someone who didnt even write the piece but found it well-reported) speaks volumes about the pressure people come under to stay silent in these cases.

The Democrat controlled Lap Dog Media is dead..period!!! From the release of the bulletin yesterday afternoon notifying the world, that Basketball Champion, Kobe Bryant and eight other people including his daughter were killed in a devastating helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, this Democrat slave Media has gotten nothing right. The reporting of all the main media newspapers, the internet, The TV news was terrible, failing at every item, incomplete, lost-at-sea...including the entire Fox News Network. It is certainly no wonder why the overwhelming majority of American citizens no longer trust the USA Media, the Political Polls, The daily news, etc.
An example....here we are 24 hours later and we still do not know the names of the nine people on board that were killed. That is the easiest item to obtain immediately from the Helicopter operator who by law must file a manifest of all people on board the Aircraft, including the pilot!!!
The Media lie tellers went on with providing false facts but....they sure dished out plenty of Obama, Biden, Pelosi, etc, BS!!! Like I say...the USA Media is dead as a true, factual, objective deliverer of the honest and truthful news of the day..period. Sad days for the American Republic and true journalism!!!
I am sorry to spout off like that.
I get frustrated with these people who are so quick to point out others faults.
I am no fan of the NBA. And, when I was I was a Celtics fan. I used to do contract work with the Basketball Hall of Fame. Ive met most of these guys in private and spent time alone with themas a fly on the wallwhich was fun.
I would never suggest that I know these players. But many of them have seen me enough at events that I would get the nod and smile.
90% of them are just people. Some are full of themselves. By the time they are the age to get in the HOF they are coming off their career highs and they become about as normal as you get.
The nicest: Rodman and Barkley. Mullins was great too. Magic was nice. Bird, Jabbar, Russel, and Jordan not so much. Shaq is fun.
I dont see them as starts in the sense that I wasnt impressed or blinded by them. The key in my mind is how they related to their wives and kids.
They are people. They make mistakes. And they are often judged by stuff they did ages ago.
But, this is an Internet forum and there are a bunch of people judging the famous. Their lives could never withstand the scrutiny that these men face. I need to keep that in mind.
This has always been about protecting the NBA brand, the TV revenues, merchandise revenues.
Here’s a question: At the time of the rape allegation, did Kobe Bryant’s contract with the NBA have a morals clause? If so, why did the NBA choose not to exercise it?
And if those clauses aren’t exercised, why are they in there?
That’s some reportage I’d be interested in.
Yes, I remember both times that happened here.
Correct.
And, we all have to be measured by God. The saved will seat on the Bema (Greek work for judgment) Seat of Christ.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what we have done whether good or bad.
2 Corinthians 5:10
The unsaved must endure the Great White Throne Judgment.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-15
She didn't settle her suit until 2005. Facebook and MySpace were around.
But I see your point.
The 19 year old was a hotel concierge. It was her job to be in the room. She claimed he slammed her over a table, choked her, and raped her. There was DNA evidence.
“What Social Media was used in 2003-2004 to bully her? “
ICQ, AOL instant messenger, Live Journal, Xanga.....email? *shrugs*.
Seems like too much effort to bully someone online back then.
He was not the pilot. Ara Zobayan was.
Nine dead. Two - I know their names. That leaves seven.
Im sorry for nine tragic deaths and for all their families.
I do as well.
If one looks at the physical evidence alone, it clearly supported her claim of rape (IMO). God cannot forgive us for what we don't confess and own up to.
Anyone below his wealth and celebrity would have never had the power to make all of that "go away." But he was able to.
Anyway, it's all ultimately in God's hands.
Anyway, I always enjoy your threads and admire your posts. Have a Great one FRiend.
You too buddy!
I hear ya. And interesting. Being from the Boston area, Russell and Bird are two of my NBA favorites. Bird of course with his own gossip daggers about how he reportedly treated his daughter from his out-of-wedlock youth and an altercation in a bar (with fans upset over how he risked and injured his hand).
I don’t tend to judge men on how they treat their wives and daughters, because appearances often don’t tell the story. And those who bend over backwards to the extreme (e.g., Kobe and his support of women’s basketball) are too often covering for their previous and/or ongoing bad behavior. Render unto Caesar’s what is Caesar’s and Oprah’s what is Oprah’s.
10:00 (Eastern) update. Stories coming NOW about other victims.
But even beyond that, she lost confidence in the system. Her name was "leaked" to the media three times. A sealed transcript of a closed hearing on DNA evidence was emailed to seven media outlets, including The New York Times.
Bryant's lawyers told the media her medical analysis said she had sex with someone after the alleged rape - something she, her lawyers, and even prosecutors emphatically denied.
But that's the way the dirty game is played.
“Guess money was worth more to her than preventing another woman from getting raped.”
She and her family was getting serious death threats and the police backed this up as happening was one reason she backed away.
I mean look at people the last 24 hours moaning an crying like Kobe was Jesus himself. I saw pics of grown men who do not even know Kobe crying like babies. Jeesh folks get a life.
bttt
Still waiting to hear what if anything will happen to the MSNBC reporterette who said LA N*ggers....er Lakers last night on the air.

Anyone below his wealth and celebrity would have never had the power to make all of that “go away.”
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Many below his wealth and celebrity would never be accused.
How do you know Bryant never confessed the sin you accuse him of?
The same way Adam Schiff knows that Trump is guilty?
Some people just have this gift that others don’t?
Sorry but the truth hurts sometimes.
I agree. She had multiple DNA including at least one AFTER the accused event.
