Some infectious disease experts are warning that it may no longer be feasible to contain the new coronavirus circulating in China. Failure to stop it there could see the virus spread in a sustained way around the world and even perhaps join the ranks of respiratory viruses that regularly infect people.
The more we learn about it, the greater the possibility is that transmission will not be able to be controlled with public health measures, said Dr. Allison McGeer, a Toronto-based infectious disease specialist who contracted SARS in 2003 and who helped Saudi Arabia control several hospital-based outbreaks of MERS.
If thats the case, she said, were living with a new human virus, and were going to find out if it will spread around the globe. McGeer cautioned that because the true severity of the outbreak isnt yet known, its impossible to predict what the impact of that spread would be, though she noted it would likely pose significant challenges to health care facilities...

The Los Angeles County Health Department wrote “people should not be excluded from activities based on their race, country of origin, or recent travel if they do not have symptoms of respiratory illness.
What is WRONG with the Health Department? Have they forgotten religion, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity and ‘Hate Trump’? Why did they not include the really important stuff?
And those 1.16 million left their germs and viruses all over the seats, seat-back tray tables, armrests, etc. Don’t worry, though - the virus can only survive only 2 to 3 hours outside the host. Don’t the airlines disinfect every aircraft between flights?
“There was a good sized flu outbreak between 25 NOV 2019 and 25 DEC 2019”
It had an R0 of about 1.3
including china?
2019-ncov is infectious through both eyes and ears. Hope you sanitized the rest of your exposed skin and laundered your clothes and foot wear. You’ll know in 14 days how well or not you did.
2.7 is based on unconfirmed numbers released by the CCP. Circulating numbers are far far higher.
infection rate is 3.8 people per infected person - multiply that and what is the answer?
The 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic seemed innocent, but killed many millions worldwide, overshadowed by the war dead from WWI.
China gains nothing by destroying their own economy first.
Listen.
FTA: he cautioned that its impossible to know at this point how severe that type of event would be
I'm listening.
When you can easily travel anywhere in the world within the time period of the disease being contagious this stuff is serious! Wait till it turns up in your town or village middle America. The CDC seems once again to be trying to perfume a pig.
Out of China and their reporting agencies. Thank God they never fabricate numbers. At the moment, I will stay calm and carry on. I appears to be a very hyped Flu. If I’m wrong, so be it.
I think the biggest idiots in society just love crap like this.

I think a lot of people were more concerned about WWI and the upheaval it caused, than by illnesses. A lot of information regarding Spanish Flu deaths was suppressed and not known by the public until much later, hence my statement that WWI overshadowed the flu deaths. Also, it turned out that many soldiers and civilian deaths attributed to WWI havoc were later revealed to be caused by flu.
Just reiterating news reports from China, that a third of the initial patients suffered a cytokine storm with this flu and a number of them died. So stricken patients are encountering cytokine storm symptoms. I too, am not well versed in medical knowledge, but am concerned regarding the Chinese efforts to put a lid on the spread of this disease. They are alarmed for some reason, and we should be concerned. Hopefully this epidemic is short and limited.
My wife always sanItizes everything after a trip via public transport. Airplanes, trains, subway transit, buses and taxis. She'll immediately wash the clothes she wore. Also uses hand sanitizers constantly. Been the case since suffering several cancers over the last 25 years and having reduced immunity from chemo and radiation treatments. But it seems to work as she rarely gets a cold, and I can't recall the last time she had the flu. Lots of unsanitary passengers sitting on public transport seats before you sit there (including unclean homeless in some cases). Not a bad idea to launder your clothes and not immediately mingle them with your other clothes and bedding.
Coughs can spread it 5 to 7 ft. Infection via mucous membranes. Eyes, nose, mouth, hands to any mucous membrane. 14 day incubation to symptoms.
5 day survival on surfaces. Ordinary aircraft cleaning is inadequate.
The ignorance police yes, the PC police no.
