LOS ANGELES (AP) The U.S. has five confirmed cases of the new virus from China, all of whom traveled to the city that is the center of the outbreak, health officials said Sunday.
Two new cases were reported Sunday one in Los Angeles County in California and the other in Maricopa County, Arizona. The others were a patient in Orange County, California, who was in isolation at a hospital and in good condition; a man in his 30s in Washington state; and a woman in her 60s from Chicago.
... The CDC expects more Americans to be diagnosed with the newly discovered virus, which is believed to have an incubation period of about two weeks, as worldwide the number of confirmed cases nears 2,000. The CDC is screening passengers on direct and connecting flights from Wuhan at five major airports in Atlanta, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Guidance from the CDC advises that people who have had casual contact with the patient are at minimal risk for developing infection.

You’d think the airlines would voluntarily stop all flights from China to the U.S. except what is considered essential flights until more is learned about this nasty cootie.
Apparently they don’t give a s**t about anything but $$.
Yes, this is not going to end well.
“Guidance from the CDC advises that people who have had casual contact with the patient are at minimal risk for developing infection.”
CDC and WHO have offered nothing new since Friday.
And it was only last weekend when they were saying there was no human-human transmission.
On the other hand, China apparently believes what CDC and WHO says is unmitigated BS.
Wuhan airport is shut down. They’d better shut down all outgoing flights from China.
Exactly...like a flying petri dish.
Cruise ships are giant petri dishes, too.
I don’t trust any of them.
Yep. My guess 50 in the next 10 days. If that holds up then 1,000 in 20 days, 1,000,000 by the end of February.
“Cruise ships are giant petri dishes, too.”
And we’ll be boarding one on Saturday. Yikes!!
dude...that was wrong. funny, but wrong.
Yes and probably worse!! You have a captive audience there for days instead of a couple hours.
According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, the patient recently returned from Wuhan, China and is a member of the Arizona State University community who does not live in university housing.
Good point. And the toilets plug up. lol

Yeah. *That* Johns Hopkins.
Read it.
And shudder. Then prep.
Cancel. Not kidding.
“Theyd better shut down all outgoing flights from China.”
That is precisely what everyone is trying to avoid. China. WHO. CDC. ECDC.
A WHO declaration of pandemic comes with all kinds of commercial restrictions and those protocols are prescribed by treaty.
Thus, of this you can be sure: Whenever the Great Pandemic does occur, WHO will not declare it so.
Unless you’re some backwater country in West Africa with a $1bil GDP.
And theres more the ships buffet cafeteria!
Love those greasy serving spoons!
Tom is operating from the delusional presumption this bug can be contained.
Its characteristics and the fact it’s now seeded just about everywhere virtually ensures everyone will be exposed to it eventually.
That cat is out of the bag.
I think at most you can hope you’ll be one of the first exposed, or last. Because in between access to the full array of medical care will be limited to a few thousand people.
We have about 800,000 hospital beds in the US.
How many mechanical ventilators? How many beds in ICU? How many medical pros will continue to come into work, week after week before they too succumb?
Most folks in the middle of the curve will not even try to go to a hospital. They’ll live or die with their own immune system.
“I actually laughed out loud. Lol”
Whatever it was was removed before I saw it.
“Cancel. Not kidding.”
Thanks for the suggestion and, trust me, it crossed our minds, but we probably won’t at this late date. Our house/pet sitter has our attorney’s contact info so if it’s our time, it’s our time.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the cruise web site to see if there are any warnings or cancellations.
