I am vilified for saying this but I think the “Greatest Generation” which lived through the great depression and WW11 are mainly at fault for the problems we face today. They got so wrapped up in providing for their families and doing what was right that they allowed the camel to stick his nose in the tent and open the door. They cared more about family than politics which in the long run has not worked to the benefit of our country.
You have a point ... however, I think it starts earlier than that, during the New Deal. Hubs’ grandpa was a thoughtful Christian. He said the church lost a great blessing by giving up ministry to the poor and letting the government take it over. I think the church lost relevance and leadership in society then, and we seeing that play out. YMMV.
Spoiling their children in an attempt to give them everything they were denied like Mercedes Benz cars and 7 bedroom 5000 sf homes. Kids from the 80s, 90s and beyond were never told no. Nor were they taught economics or history.
Actually, that's a pretty common opinion o FR.
You are correct. They elected Roosevelt.
Totally agree. The Greatest Generation were not the greatest at parenting. Second only to boomers in allowing liberalism to fester and debase our society. They peaked at the close of the war.
I didn’t see that when I was growing up. My parents and every adult I knew was involved, all took voting very seriously. Mothers were at the least involved with PTA, served as room mothers. I knew everyone on the school board, mostly fathers then but my mother served on the school board for a time too. Adults kept themselves informed as much as possible; reached out to politicians about issues.
Their children, that is when noticible change took place. When I attended PTA meetings only a handful of people there. Fewer at school board meetings. My age group took to the streets and made no secret of being anti-establishment. They are the Democrat Party today. We didn’t pay attention and did nothing to stop them.
